    Fermentation Problem

Nice. This never occurred to me and now I have to air out my sleeping bag which I was wrapping my carboys in because it smells like rhino farts from the Apfelwein. I think I even have a old aquarium heater around. My big concern with this technique though, is lifting the wet, filled glass...

Glass Carboy as a Conical Fermentor...

There's always the V-Vessel or the MiniBrew plastic conicals which I've heard some good things about. The only concern I would have with some of the large MiniBrew's is that with that much volume the yeasties might start to cook themselves if you don't have good temperature controls.

    Where to find kegs

Yes, but you sign a legal agreement with car rentals. You don't do that with kegs. The first time I picked up a keg I didn't even know I paid a deposit.

    Where to find kegs

I understand that it may be a problem. I just question these companies that think they can stamp "Property of" on something, sell it, and then claim that you stole it if you don't give it back. I don't think the legality of it would hold up in court. There's a difference between...

    If you could start over...

To each his own on kegs vs bottles. I just want the word to get out that kegging isn't the holy grail. It's just an alternative to bottling and isn't a superior way to store your brew.

    People Actually Like My Homebrew!

No! You made the biggest mistake a homebrewer can make. Sharing! Now you can't hoard it all for yourself.

    Where to find kegs

I don't get the whole "Property of ..." nonsense. If it's your property and you don't want to lose it, then don't let others have it. It's like those stupid cardboard bread boxes. I think it's nice to return the kegs, but I don't know if I would go as far to say it's unethical to not...

    kegging vs. bottling

Cleaning a keg is not as simple as throwing in oxyclean and letting it sit. You also have to take apart the little knick knacks where the gas goes in and beer goes out. Not to mention the regular cleaning of the tap and getting CO2 refils. The dishwasher is for cleaning not sanitizing and...

    If you could start over...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Here's my explanation from a previous thread. One of these days I have to right an nice diatribe/editorial about it.

    If you could start over...

Bigger kettle that can handle 10 gallon batches would be my first recommendation. Also, I realized that kegging is as much work as bottling so I wouldn't have wasted money on cornies (I already had a kegerator).

    Questions on bucket primary/secondary fermentation

If you can afford it definitely pick up another carboy. Better bottles are also fine. They're plastic carboys. You'll only need a 5 gallon one for secondary and don't forget the bung and airlock.

    Wort Cooler

I wouldn't underestimate the time factor even if you weren't concerned about the cold break. It takes a long time for 5 gallons to drop to room temperature which leaves the wort very vulnerable to infections.

    Opie & Anthony

What sucks about this is that suspending your talent gives power to the Al Sharptons of the world who convince these companies that they're speaking for the majority when they're really just speaking for a minority which doesn't even listen to the shows in question. Yeah, I'm sure that Imus's...

    I'm gonna quit

The only thing that worked for me was to systematically stop smoking during certain activities. For me it was: 1) Stop smoking at home 2) Stop smoking at work 3) Stop smoking at bars Then it was the final step of will power to stop smoking while driving (I have a 45 mile commute). I haven't...

Anyone here own a Toyota FJ Cruiser??

I have a Jeep Liberty and would strongly suggest not getting one. Jeep has the worst customer service I've ever had. My biggest beefs are: 1) They never provide loaner cars. Every dealer/repair shop except the Jeep ones have provided loaner cars without a problem. They don't even provide...

Yeah, remove some of the excess hose. Mine wouldn't run with a longer host that winded around.
