    Weird Foaming Problem

I just opened up the keg to see what was going on and I noticed the temp inside the keg was COLD. My breath was freezing just above the main opening. Would being so cold cause this? I've got my controller set at 42* which puts it down to 38* at the coldest. I don't know why my keg would be...

    Weird Foaming Problem

Weird problem just cropping up on one of my kegs. I recently tapped a blonde ale that I naturally carbed in the keg. Let it sit for almost 3 weeks, put it on roughly 7 psi to serve and everythings been great - until today. I pulled a couple pints earlier and it poured fine, decent head no...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Well my extract version of this seems to be finally done. Let it carb up naturally for almost 3 weeks. Took a sample off the keg before tossing it in the keezer and it's GOOD. I ended up adding twice as many bittering hops (and a little more flavor/aroma) but it still came out nice. When I...

Who remembers the first beer they had??

Had my first in some small village outside Frankfurt in Germany :D Seriously, it was the best beer I've ever had. That might be because it was my first and it just felt better, or maybe it's that I have a soft spot for German lagers and getting it at the source is better then the bottled...

    Cult movies

Does Heavy Metal count? Just watched that a few weeks ago and it was AWESOME! The South Park homage was pretty hilarious as well. Donnie Darko is pretty awesome as well, I love that every time I watch it I have a different feeling about it, and many different theories about it and such.

    Uses for a Growler

Have your local brewery fill it for you. That's what I use mine for. Granted it doesn't get used much...you'll have to drink it pretty soon after filling.

    Help With Mead Recipe

I was planning on possibly starting this in a 6.5 gallon better bottle, with a 5.5 gallon recipe adjusted from a 5 gallon (basically a little more honey as to not water it down). I've got a 5 gallon carboy I'd use as a secondary, or I'll just buy another BB if I have to. Depending on how...

    Help With Mead Recipe

Thanks, that should get me the info I need. Another question, do meads typically have any formidable krausen when fermenting? I'll be brewing this in a 5 gallon fermenter and trying to keep it right at 5 gallons (no less).

    Help With Mead Recipe

I'm thinking of starting on a mead here next weekend, and would like some opinions on good recipes. I'd like a relatively sweet mead that isn't too hard to do. It's my first one so I don't want anything too difficult. ABV in the 12% range, no less then 10% no more then 15%. 5 gallon batch...

    Boil all the water?

If you've got a lot of chlorine in your tap water it should be boiled. Or if you think it has some nasties in it. I always use bottled water and don't boil the top off.

    Chocolate Malt

I don't know what malts put those flavours in there. You can always add actual chocolate. I would figure powdered unsweetened cocoa would work reasonably well, stay away from milk chocolates or anything with a lot of fat or additives.

    Chocolate Malt

It doesn't taste anything like chocolate, rather named more for the color. It'll give you some caramel notes in your beers (among other flavours).

    Beer Too Hoppy/Cold Crashing

Well it's kegged and primed so we'll see how it tastes at the end of the month. Right now it's an EXTREMELY light body, almost like drinking hop water. Granted it was not carbed and pretty warm... I've got some apfelwein I just started to keep me busy in the meantime :tank:

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Looks like mine is done, surprised it got down to 1.010 FG. First batch ever I've gotten that low :rockin: First thing I noticed: adding twice as many bittering hops was not a good mistake. Hopefully a time out for a month or so will fix that. I'm going to be kegging today/tomorrow...

    Beer Too Hoppy/Cold Crashing

Something I thought of: would priming with DME, and putting in a little extra help balance it out a little? As I'm kegging it I don't have to worry about pressure. Could I just release the pressure a few times a day for a few days then let it be to carbonate? My thought is that the little...

    Beer Too Hoppy/Cold Crashing

I'm just finishing up a blonde ale of sorts (used the Centennial Blonde recipe from HBT) and after trying the recent hydro sample it's a bit bitter. I made the mistake of doubling up on the bittering hops when boiling, so naturally it's a little out of control. Right now it's done fermenting...

    Commercial Dry Mead

I'll give those a try. I got a good laugh with B. Nektar's 'sweetness scale'. They're actually the one I just tried (I think it was wildflower). Every single bottle I saw had the little bee way at the sweet end of the scale. Don't even know why they bothered, seemed they didn't even offer...

    Iron Key/Browsing From Flash Drive

Just found something called the Iron Key, basically a flash drive that claims very good encription. Anyone use one? Worth the price? I really don't carry much on thumb drives that I consider extremely personal or 'mission critical', however I'm always intrigued by things like that. It...
