    When to dry hop

@worlddivides the clarity thing is interesting. That is the yeast doing its thing. I was listening to a podcast, can't recall which. Was about making a hop drink. Not a zero alcohol beer, but a drink where no grain is used. Just hops and water. The question was what effect would yeast...

    When to dry hop

That makes sense. I don't see that aroma would be blown off, as the aromas are dissolved in the liquid. If they were just sitting as gases in the head space, they would disappear once you tried to pull a pint. A couple hours ago I finished brewing an English brown ale. My hop bong is...

    First Starsan purge

So is that for pushing co2 through jumper lines? And is there a mnemonic reason for having red and yellow?

    First Starsan purge

@Deadalus you are correct. I went downstairs and sure enough, the second keg had stalled, with gas escaping but some liquid not being pushed through. I'm just going to write this out, to get it straight in my head. I chopped and swapped one of the tubes. I made a liquid to gas jumper. It...

    First Starsan purge

I'm relieved that we do it the same way. Fill the first keg with starsan. Invert the keg and do a small drain out the prv. When the gas has pushed the liquid out, leave the keg filled wtih 100% co2. I would like to know about shelf life of starsan. I thought that as long as I keep...

    First Starsan purge

Doing my very first purge of a serving keg, using liquid instead of gas. Hope I'm doing it right. I have a fermenter bubbling away. After the fermenter are two serving kegs in a daisy chain. And then a bucket at the very end. From the fermenter, a gas/gas jumper pushes gas into a serving...

    When to dry hop

Good morning, all I know this has been discussed, but I just viewed a Brulosophy experiment that showed that adding the hops when pitching the yeast, gave results with no sensory difference from dry hopping at full Krausen, or even at end of fermentation. If true, this is a convenient method...

Could I use a syringe through a ball lock to add gelatin finings?

Yes, kidney filtering works great. I can offer that as a service if someone has beer they need me to clarify.

    New Hop Bong

Yup. I'll hop when it's at full krausen. Will have to take the keg out of the fridge to attach the bong. I now see that with this system, I can't start any german lagers or NEIPAs until I finish a closed transfer on this batch. From pitch to closed transfer, the airlock has to stay on...

    New Hop Bong

All done. Inkbird temperature sensor on the left, spunding valve on the right, and on top, a spaceship syle airlock. "Open the pod bay door, Hal"

Not understanding the lids and Hop Bongs on All Rounder fermenters

That's exactly what I have done. I put the fermenter in a spare downstairs fridge and control it with an Inkbird. I use cornies. I am running a mash right now and am looking forward to using Bobbi's hop bong in a few days.

Not understanding the lids and Hop Bongs on All Rounder fermenters

Thanks @fluketamer. That answers it. You can do lodo with the All Rounder. I may buy one, knowing that.

    New Hop Bong

Good morning @wepeeler I don't think that would work for me. Even if you replace the pellet holder part of the bong and put on that plate with the two posts, you still have to open the vessel to get a dip tube down into the vessel. That means opening up the vessel and exposing the wort...

    New Hop Bong

Bobby, I have another question. It's about using your hop bong with a Kegland All Rounder. Right now I'll be using the bong on a corny five gallon. I bought the corny lid that rises up to a TC. When I dump the pellets, I keep the bong, or the bottom half, on the lid, so the vessel remains...

    New Hop Bong

Well, hops (Humulus lupulus) and cannabis (Cannabis sativa) are direct botanical relatives, both belonging to the same plant family, Cannabaceae.

    New Hop Bong

Bobby, Yeah I just figured this out an hour ago. Your brass cap method is better than a standard PRV. You can just leave the brass cap slightly open and your hands are free for a minute while you do other things. And yeah, once I had the valve installed and pressed down on the handle it...

Not understanding the lids and Hop Bongs on All Rounder fermenters

This is about minimizing oxygen, and the lid choices on the All Rounder. My confusion may be due to my being new to hop bongs. I'm looking at buying a Kegland All Rounder. Thirty liter. It comes with a lid fitted for gas and liquid posts. All good. You can pressurize and do closed...

    New Hop Bong

Yeah, the more I use this, I see it's all good. The brass nut is the prv. And I think the butterfly valve is supposed to be this firm. And I get why it's a wide bong with a reducer to fit onto the smaller opening for a five gallon corny. The wide valve allows a more free flow of...

    New Hop Bong

Received a new hop bong from BrewHardware. Very interesting. I already had a corny keg lid that accepts the bong, so this should be good to go. Couple questions. Should there not be a prv on the top? Instead there is a brass nut. Also the lever handle does not close all the way. It...
