Long time between mash out and sparge in

That's good to know... my sparge water was at 160 when I mashed out (I live in a city and am limited to an electric stove that took half an hour to go up 35 degrees)... in either case the grain sat in the cooler for half an hour while the first runnings started heating up in the kettle, then I...

Long time between mash out and sparge in

Haha... I start doing that at the end of the boil :P

Long time between mash out and sparge in

I started heating my sparge water much later than I should have, so there was a half an hour after mashing out (single infusion mash) before I batch sparged. Is this one of those RDWHAHB things? :mug:

We no need no stinking beer gun...

Question for those who have done this before - how full should the bottle be? I want to bottle more tomorrow, but did a trial run today with two bottles, both of which are nearly completely full. Is it like a growler where you can fill it all the way? Note that these two bottles will be enjoyed...

We no need no stinking beer gun...

OK, so who else here has forgotten to unlock the tap before moving onto the next bottle? Besides this guy, of course :p Beer shower!

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

How long does the set it and forget it method take to carbonate a smaller batch (2.5 gallons)? I know the burst carb method takes less time with a smaller batch size, is the same true for set it and forget it?

How Do You Dry-Hop/Carb Your Kegged IPAs?

Haha yeah... I am thinking I should go with two bags... even if the tuck worked, it would probably make it quite hard to get out.

How Do You Dry-Hop/Carb Your Kegged IPAs?

With it tied at the top and even if suspended to the very top of the lid, it may still reach the bottom. Ideas I've had are to 1. string the bottom of the bag to the top to form a U shape or 2. use two smaller bags.

How Do You Dry-Hop/Carb Your Kegged IPAs?

Does anyone have experience dry hopping a small keg (in my case 3 gallons) with leaf hops? I was thinking of using two ounces of leaf hops and got a bag recommended for "1-2 ounces of whole hops" (9 in. x 12 in. from MoreBeer) but when I hold the bag up to the keg it seems like it would reach...

How Do You Dry-Hop/Carb Your Kegged IPAs?

Thanks for the info! :mug: I am definitely looking forward to keg hopping and appreciate it. Do you force carb or prime? I ask because I've been thinking of two options - 1. prime with dry hops suspended then put in kegerator and attach to CO2 at serving pressure or 2. rack to keg and leave...

How Do You Dry-Hop/Carb Your Kegged IPAs?

This is what I am thinking of doing for my next keg, wondering if anyone has experience doing so: 1. No dry-hop in fermentor - rack to purged keg with a bag of whole hops (and some marbles) hanging from the keg lid 2. Prime keg for a week, with dry-hops in, at room temperature* 3. Move to...

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

That makes sense! I got the 36-48 hours advice from someone at my LHBS but don't think I mentioned that I do small batches. I did the instant solution for overcarbed keg thing on this forum and it worked, tastes better and I'm getting great pours. Thanks for the info!

How Do You Dry-Hop/Carb Your Kegged IPAs?

Note: This poll is only asking about IPAs that are dry-hopped and kegged, trying to explore the effects of differences in procedure. How do you dry-hop/carb your kegged IPAs? Please feel free to elaborate! Do you do anything different based on pellet vs leaf hops? Does temperature play a...

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

I don't think I have been force carbonating right. Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or post here; trying the latter. This is what I currently do (2.5 gallon batches if that matters): 1. Cold crash carboy in kegerator for 4-5 days 2. Rack into purged keg 3. Set to 30 psi with keg...

    Attention new all grain brewers!

Thank you very much for specifying this! I was about to make a post (will still ramble below) but this answers my question :mug: I live in an apartment building with no outdoor access to brew and have an electric stove that struggles to get 3 gallons to a boil. While I do reach 212F, I only...

    Basic CO2 Leak Questions

Purged, removed emergency pressure release valve, didn't see anything stuck in there. Re-attached and didn't see any bubbling. Anything else I can do to check? Very tempted to just use old regulator.

    Basic CO2 Leak Questions

The regulator I have been using is a Governor dual-gauge regulator from Northern Brewer, never used before. I have a more basic regulator that I used with three kegs and never had a problem. Strongly considering just swapping back to the old regulator, at least for this keg.

    Basic CO2 Leak Questions

OK. So after 24 hours, the pressure on the regulator did start to drop, down 10 psi after 24 hours and then down to 0 by the following morning. Does this indicate that the regulator is leaking? This was with tank closed and shutoff valve to keg closed, with keg disconnected. I know there still...

    Basic CO2 Leak Questions

OK, so this was not part of your advice, but I decided to release some pressure from the keg and barely any CO2 came out. Does this indicate that the leak is somewhere in the keg, given that it had been pressurized then disconnected and did not maintain pressure? And does this mean that my...

    Basic CO2 Leak Questions

This is the step I am currently on. It hasn't been 24 hours yet but so far there has been no drop in pressure.
