    Star San question

I have star san in my carboy. It is weird because it divides into a clear, and cloudy layer. So I guess you can say I have the halo.

Early Failure on a March Pump

wd-40 will gum up after awhile , so that makes it a bad candidate for bearings. Keeping the bearings clean is the most important. I know bearings usually contain a grease, but not sure about that on this pump. I am also along for the ride on what oil would be best . It seems that the head is...

Help me decide which style chiller.

Yeah I used LME. It was a learning curve thing at the time. I was hustling to get the false bottom out so I could stir it. It scorched part of the LME :cross: I will mess with my sirron possibly in the future, but wen ahead and purchased a Chillus Convolutus Counterflow Chiller. I figured I...

    Oxi Clean Question

Yeah I really need to check up on my water makeup for where I brew. So based on what you said I have too soft of water for the amount used? I had stubborn spots on where the krausen ring was in the carboy, and had to clean a few times. I was never successful in removing them. They are...

    Oxi Clean Question

Ok so I noticed this white stuff(precarbonate scale) in my carboy after cleaning with oxyclean. So WTF why is this stuff so recommended if it leaves things that produce an off flavor? Is the PBW the same or different makeup?

Help me decide which style chiller.

Well I am doing an all grain batch next, so I will not have the problem of not using any filter method from my kettle. (false bottom) I have also considered using leaf hopps instead. I am sure that a false bottom would cover the debris aspect dont your think? On the first run I had to pull...

Help me decide which style chiller.

I am using a 40 quart polarware with valve. I have a false bottom for it, but did not use it that time because I was doing partial mash. I realized that scorching the extract at the time was going to be a problem with the false bottom. At the time I did not have a valve to slow the flow down on...

    Star San question

Help me decide which style chiller.

Well first off let me state that I have a shirron plate chiller, that I am thinking of ditching. I live in Houston, where the water can be high in temp, so naturally I also took precautions to run the water side of the chiller closed loop with ice water. I jumped into brewing a while...

    Refrigerator as fermenting chamber

Why would the top be warmer? Is the freezer a pull out on the bottom? I am having a hard time picturing this fridge, any pics?

    Refrigerator as fermenting chamber

I just started using my outside fridge for fermenting with a controller. I figured I could put my tap on it also and when fermenting is done, regulate and use that for beer. I know this sounds sub optimal, but it is my solution till I can get another chest dedicated for fermenting. It does...

    Quick question about batch sparging

Well I am still so new to all grain, and beer making period for that matter, that the software is somewhat still kind of confusing. I used the trial beersmith to calculate all of my strike temp to get my grains to 155F. I also used the water needed under tools to get my total water amt. I...

    Few questions about my setup.

Ok I will be taking pics soon. I know it is hard to follow stuff like this typed out in words. Ok so does anybody have their pump flow slow down from the debris in the boil? Yeah I will most likley not be doing a partial mash next time, but all grain. But for the future I know that the...

    Quick question about batch sparging

Ok this clears up things a bit thanks. I was afraid of getting the wrong temp, and screwing up a future batch. I did a 2nd sparge around 185 the last time, but it took a while to drain. Does this raise grain above the 170 range?

Beware AG brewing and drinking - Memorial Day

LOL I had 1 beer while doing my first batch, and still screwed up parts of it. Cheers!

    Quick question about batch sparging

Ok so I did a partial mash brew and it was my first brew ever. :mug: I understand how to achieve the proper strike temp and volume. I am more or less confused about the 2nd sparge temp after the first runnings. How do you figure out what temp to use. I know it is called mash out, but what...
