Converting all grain recipe to extract

Thanks for all the advice, I will look into the software and see if I can use it. The recipe I have is; HARVEY'S SUSSEX BEST 6lb. Crushed pale malt 8 oz. Flaked maize 3 gal. Water for 'bitter' brewing 8 oz. Light soft brown sugar 2 oz. Goldings hops 1 oz. Northern brewer hops 1 tsp. Irish...

Converting all grain recipe to extract

Hi all. I have a recipe Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter but it is an all grain recipe. Although I'm hoping to go all grain one day I'm still not at that level. Is there a way of converting recipes like this to extract? I will post the recipe when I get home as it's in a book which I don't have on...

Do i really need to prime or can I not?

I've just cold crashed and it's MUCH better, nice and flat how I like it :D

Do i really need to prime or can I not?

Hi duboman. I usually try to refrigerate them for about 2 days each so I might try 3 days. I'd rather not pour it out and leave it as I assume it will produce off flavours anyway. When I pour I pour gently to the edge of the glass which reduces the head, makes sense to pour it how you say to...

Do i really need to prime or can I not?

I've been using the priming calculator to put in the recommended amount, it's not that its over carbonated, it's just that I don't like the fizz. I'll try my next batch without the primming sugar, see how that goes :)

Do i really need to prime or can I not?

Hi all. I've just finished bottle conditioning a harvest mild beer kit, this is my second one now and I'm really happy with the taste but the only thing I'm not so keen on is the fizz. I like a good flat ale so I was wondering if primming sugar is completely necessary? I guess I could limit...

    1kg sugar & 500g SDM for 1 can kit?

So a kg of DME to 500g sugar is better? I'm happy doing it either way around

    1kg sugar & 500g SDM for 1 can kit?

Is it usually bad to add twice as much sugar as DME then?

    1kg sugar & 500g SDM for 1 can kit?

So I should be ok to give this a go then

    1kg sugar & 500g SDM for 1 can kit?

I'm still at the newbie stage and I've made a couple of 1 can kits following the idiots guide enclosed. I want to start messing about with it a bit and I was thinking of adding 500g muntons medium spray dry malt as well as 1kg brewing sugar to try and boost the alcohol level whilst giving it a...

Do you strain it just through racking? At what stage do you do that? I thought I should let it settle and disturb it as little as possible?

    Complete beginner seeking a mentor

Ive just had a thought, I will need to check my notes at home but there is 4g per teaspoon of table sugar, half of that per bottle (34 bottles) would make for 68g which is about right on the calculator, I'm sure I used WAY more than that. I'm wondering if I forgot to half the amount, I'm sure I...

Two weeks after bottling and I've tried my first beer....... It's not bad!! I know I should wait another week so I will try again then. I have noticed that it seems VERY fizzy!! I didn't have any problems like a foam volcano and it poured fine but it does seem very fizzy. I must confess that...

    Cold crashing without a fridge

As stated above, got no fridge! (Well, I do, but the misses might get upset when I empty it out and put my fermenter in there!) anyway, I'm pretty far off this stage but I like to think ahead and plan. I was thinking I could fill up a general black plastic dustbin with water, add some bottles...

    Complete beginner seeking a mentor

Hi everyone. I thought I'd let you all know how I'm getting on! My first batch is now done and bottled, now for the hard part, waiting! There have been a couple of things I have noticed that I will try to change when I do my next batch that I was hoping to get some advice on. I planned for 34...

Looking at the calculator in the link aptasia posted, how would I know what volume of CO2 I want? I'm brewing the straight forward Youngs Harvest Bitter; http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Youngs_40_pint_Harvest_Bitter_Beer_Kit.html#.URkH-iggGc0 and I've done it to be a bit stronger so...

Ah ok, not heard of chilling them like that so I'll look into that. I'm going to do a bit of math (volume of a cylinder) to get a rough idea and then go from there. If I'm better off waiting 3 weeks I shall need to look into more bottles as there's no way I'll be able to wait until they're all...
