    Mystery Coffee Bean Swap

*whew*, that's the most important part. I would have hated to deliver something that was undrinkable - which is possible since I would still consider myself a novice as far as roasting goes.

Haha, we weren't even on the right side of the frickin' planet! It's cool to hear what you get from it. I'll keep those notes in mind when we taste again. Sometimes knowing what I am looking for helps me determine what I'm tasting. Looking forward to playing with this, thanks!

    Mystery Coffee Bean Swap

This morning my wife and I tried the beans from @jammin. And since pictures are worth a thousand words, I snapped a few pics to add here but doubt they will appear inline with the timeline. After grinding, and heating the water to 200, I scooped into our Aeropress for a 2:30 soak (inverted)...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

That I can't tell you. But if you aren't seeing the orange glow it's the afterburner. Fortunately it is usually a quick fix (15 minutes). You should be able to Google that or reach out to Behmor support and they will forward you directions on how to fix. I can always search my email if...

Is the afterburner coming on? The easiest way to check is just to hit COOL and open the door to check to see if it glows orange.

    Mystery Coffee Bean Swap

My package will likely include some German Shepherd hair - no additional cost. Inkleg's package should be hair-free. If there's any hair stuck to it I would be VERY cautious...

    Mystery Coffee Bean Swap

Beans have been roasted and are ready to be shipped on Monday. No time like the present. They should have a 3-4 day rest when received and be ready to go.

Just posting to verify that I've seen the results, thanks.

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

Well, that is..........interesting and concerning. I won't take the fact that it hasn't happened yet as any indication that it won't happen in the future. I can easily switch to a balloon as I never thought the pressure for the vacuum could cause a collapse.

    Must visit breweries in California

Echoing the recommendations for Russian River (do the FULL sampler, 20 beers). Lagunitas for the atmosphere. HenHouse (taproom, nothing special in terms of atmoshpere) but literally across the street from Lagunitas and really good beers. Faction in Alameda for the experience, views and beers...

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

Yes, it is. I use it for a blowoff tube during fermentation, then I cap it off during cold crash to avoid suck back (2nd pic). Then when it is time to keg, I attach my CO2 line to the other end of the tubing.

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

I'll take a pic of my next brew day/fermentation. I use a 90-degree join to attach a blowoff tube in the lid when fermentation is done I then attach my CO2 tank to the tubing for a pressure transfer.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I roasted two small batches of the Honduran Lempira for my wife. One using the P-2 auto-setting on the Behmor 1600+ and the other using P-5 manual (high heat all the way) to see if she could taste a difference in the roasting. Both were taken to Full City + (just the first snaps of 2nd). She...

Generally speaking, I would consider that a light roast. But opinions may vary, too. My wife likes her Ethiopian to go to Full City + and still gets the origin flavors in it, but without the acidity. I think the development time on those is closer to 20%. We use an Aeropress, FWIW.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

It does. I've taken to preheating mine to somewhere between 150-200 as well.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Cool....the next batch I roast for her will be P5 from the get-go as well. High and hard (without overheating), and I'll drop to P2 when 1st crack starts to stretch out the development time. Then I'll do another batch of keeping it high and hard all the way to 2nd crack to minimize development...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I think that may be the challenge. I use that timer as a guide - meaning that if I roast two batches the same way and want the same profile I'll replicate the timing and development %. If I want something different I can go above/below the previous development time or percentage. I'm guessing...
