Moving to BIAB and have pH Questions

Your beer might have seemed thin when you diluted because your diluting the ion concentration with it. Your chloride and sulfate levels are too low in your existing water to begin with. You should be adding salt to the brew kettle to bring it to your desired flavor profile. Whether your...

Moving to BIAB and have pH Questions

Your water is almost identical to mine and I dilute 50-50 with distilled for lighter beers. I don't have to use much acid malt if any. The gypsum and calcium chloride I add to get the sulfates and chloride levels I want puts the mash ph right where it needs to be with a little adjusting. I think...

    Grassy taste from keg hopping

I'm thinking it has something to do with cascade hops also. I have a keg dry hopped with simcoe and the bags been in the keg for 2 weeks so far and taste delicious. Did the grassiness fade on the kegs you hopped with cascade?

    Grassy taste from keg hopping

So I kegged my first beer and dry hopped it in the keg after a lot of reading on keg hopping. It was all simcoe hopped pale ale. 1oz dry hopped in fermenter and 1oz into the keg. Turned out great. My second beer I kegged was an ipa. 3 week primary. Tasted great going into the keg...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

I researched this question when I brewed this beer also. Came to the same conclusion. Black barley and roasted barley are the same thing. Briess 300l roasted barley isn't what most stouts call for when a recipe says roasted barley. They usually mean the 500l

Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

I would bottle sooner rather than later if you want it for thanksgiving. Even with adding fresh yeast at bottling mine took about 3 months to carbonate.

    Cheap price on co2 hose

It would be nice to have line for both. I have the accu flex bev seal ultra line for beer side. Seems it would be a waste on the gas side

No room in keezer, fermentation almost over...

If it's a fully carbed keg it's not a bad thing to leave it. His beer is not carbed yet.

Accu flex ultra for co2 line?

My LHBS sell all their tubing for .69 a ft. Birdman brewing sell the accu flex tubing for $39 with free shipping. I like to use the john guest fittings with this tubing since it's a lot easier to use, but I don't know if they are good at holding pressure though. They are also cheaper than a...

I've zested oranges a week before brewing and froze them without issues. Beer came out nice and citrusy.

    Homemade PBW Recipe

The constant rinsing you have to do with oxiclean is the biggest reason I use PBW. I hate rinsing things a million times. Glad to hear it rinses easier when it's mixed with the other ingredients. I'll probably give this a try.
