I did get in on the first group buy where pickup was at the mighty taco location. Wasn't sure if it was switching around for every buy.

You can sub it if u want but it won't be the same beer. I think a couple ppl subbed it in the thread.
The black barley is a tad bitter , roasty more coffee like. Where a 1/2 lb of black patent will be more acrid , burnt and ashy.
US-05 has an alcohol all the way up to 11-13%. A lot of ppl use it for high gravity barelywines.
Your not going to stop fermentation just by bottling it. It will still ferment in the bottle and you just end up with bottle bombs.
Anyone try subbing the hops with something they have on hand? Don't feel like running to the LHBS. Thinking of using EKG as a sub or maybe just some magnum to hit the IBU's.

I'm looking to tranfer mine to a keg for aging as well.
Will a keg stay sealed without constant co2 pressure on it ?
I would think the beer would absorb some co2 therefore losing the seal?
I could be wrong though seeing as I've never aged in a keg, but have plenty of extras to do so.
It's not the same as black malt ( usually called black patent malt). Black barley is essential " roasted barley " 500L.
Briess has a 300L roasted barley ( a light version) and a 500L "black barley" ( essentially roasted barley).
They call it black barley to differentiate the two.
Love this recipe for single hopped beers. I've done the Simcoe twice which I love.
Did it w Mosaic but added a 10 min addition and a 2oz flame out. Almost came out more like a session IPA w the extra hops. Still took second in the pale ale category in a local comp with a 37.
