What diameter tubing are you using? 12psi is gassing out for me.

    Sparkling "Hard" water recipe

I had so many problems with that nutrient mix from Northern Brewer. It's not you.. its the mix. I had stopped using it all together and was using my husband's nutrient blend for his beer with EC-118 yeast. It tastes citrus-y but it smells like sulphur. It takes 2 weeks to complete at right...

    Sparkling "Hard" water recipe

I did not have success with .05 yeast. It stalls beyond saving and at well above .1 gravity. Ec-118 yeast and tap water plus minerals tastes good (kinda citrus-y) but smells like sulphur. Best so far and one I will continue forward with is BrewWater (yeast and mineral packet) from BrewChatter...

Hard Seltzer vs Hard Sparkling Water

I've been making hard seltzer or "water" for about a year now. It takes a bit of trial and error to find the Yeast and Nutrient combos that work for you. The key notes from me are Seltzer is so much easier to make than beer 😋 .05 yeast stalls (every time) and leaves you with a sweet instead of...

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

EC yeast never ever worked for me and i got the same sweet rotten type of smell from it with little to not enough yeast activity. Hydrometer movement was zero to zilch. Try 05 yeast - for me it has been fool proof and always a success.

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

The lime flavoring i had tasted too much like sugar alcohol candy or something. That one was hard to finish. By far i like it straight up or with just a bit of raspberry. Ive been keeping a bottle of flavored water from flavor packets like pink lemonade or gatorade sticks inside the keg fridge...

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

Have you noticed if the flavoring you have super strength or not? What brand do you use? Im interested in a better tasting raspberry and blackberry ☺

    Sparkling "Hard" water recipe

I am on my 2nd batch of hard seltzer now and ec1118 yeast failed both times. 05 yeast is working magic. This round we do not have it on climate control and it is still doing well. We used tap water and dechlorinated it. It turns out nice and dry, not sugary and very similar to whitexlaw. Less...

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

SOOO.... I didn't realize it at the time but I put all 10lbs of corn sugar into 5.5 gals of water. Can I put 1/2 into a keg, diluted with dechlorinated tap water and store the rest in the fermenter until another keg frees up? We did add the 05 yeast and now without temp control it is working its...

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

I've considered carbonating water but it would be more work and not save me any money in liquor.

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

Update! 2nd try was a success! 5.5 gals tap water, 4lbs corn sugar, 05 yeast, set up in a controlled temp setting with a heated seed pad taped to the outside of the fermenter and a cooler of water with airconditioner coil on a thermostat to circulate. Added a dramm of raspberry flavoring then...

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

We dont have either of those so I added about a half gallon of tap water and agitated. We will probably start over with tap water if this is unsuccessful. Thanks so much!

Upon further analysis.. the gravity has not changed much at all. Our first measurement at 95 degrees converted to 1.025. Our measurement today at 72 degrees converts to 1.020

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

In regards to no activity, the original addition of EU yeast and nutrient yielded a decrease from a out 25 on the hydrometer to about 22 after 5 days. The air lock was pushing a bubble or so periodically. I guess I mean it seemed like very little activity. Temperature was consistantly at 72...

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

Thanks for ypur reply! The mineral kit comprised of 2.5g epsom salt, 3g baking soda, 2.5g magnesium chloride and the nutrient packet is food grade Urea and Diammonium Phosphate. We use our tap water for beer but read that tap water has too many minerals for a seltzer, would taste like minerals...

Having trouble with 1st try at Hard Seltzer

Hello! My husband has been making beer for about 2 years and I finally decided to get in on the action! He recommended for me to contact the homebrew peeps because you are all so very helpful =) As the title implies, this is my first attempt at making hard seltzer and it does not seem to be...
