    Stupid Joke Thread!

Saw a sign on a store in Iuka, MS, in 1976. Sale prices on 'lawn mores' and 'panty hoes'. I hope their educational system has gotten better since then.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Didn't commercial brewers use copper vessels for centuries, before the advent of stainless steel? I don't doubt the negative effects on long term shelf life, but ....

I've seen that sort of pattern a few times. I believe you'll be ok.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Won't our pre-boil volumes need to be smaller, on account of the lower boil-off volume? So perhaps those existing ports may not be too low.

Well, I recall 'Pigs in Space', but I never knew Kermit made a solo voyage as well.

    Stupid Joke Thread!

Reminds me of the cowboy who thought he'd been bitten by a buzzworm while answering a call of nature. Certain he was going to die, he consulted a doctor. Doc said he'd be fine, he'd just squatted down on his own spurs. Then there was the feller who squatted and got 'himself' caught in a...

    Stupid Joke Thread!

The absent minded preacher woke up Sunday morning and discovered his mule was missing. He had to walk and jog all the way to church to be on time. As he jogged along, he thought of a way to find out who stole his mule. He would preach a sermon on the Ten Commandments. When he got to 'Thou...

    Cats

Glad she's doing better. FWIW, I've had success getting sick cats to eat by putting a mix of honey and Gatorade on their front paws. If they are too sick to lick it off, it's definitely time for the vet.

    1st batch and some questions

This is very nearly correct. The problem is that boiling temp is not a constant 212°F. It changes every time atmospheric pressure changes. 212°F is correct ay sea level and average atmospheric pressure. You could verify local atmospheric pressure, then determine boiling temp at that...

    Random Picture Thread

I believe it was Andrew Johnson, but yes, that's how I learned it. Lincoln declared a day of Thanksgiving in 1863 after several northern victories, including Vicksburg and Gettysburg, but Johnson finally nailed down the date for annual observances. For some reason it took a while to catch on...

    Control Panel Power Cord

Check your local diy stores for pieces of cut cable at deeply discounted prices. I've struck gold this way several times. Add a plug and receptacle and you are done, at a much lower cost than pre-made cables.

    Show us your Kegerator

Wood is a fairly good insulator. Before mechanical refrigeration, ice boxes were usually made of wood, with cork insulation. He can always add foamboard on the inside if it causes trouble.

    Water Volume

A 5 gallon batch in a 26 gallon kettle 20" in diameter? Your boil off rate will be through the roof on account of the huge surface area in relation to depth. Just as a shallow puddle dries up faster than a deep one. If you can't use a smaller diameter kettle, try to keep the boil as low as...

I like this time at night on HBT

For working and hiking, I vote for old fashioned denim bib overalls. Big Smith and Roundhouse are two good brands. As comfortable and flexible as suspenders, with lots of handy pockets. I attended a wedding once, where the father of the bride, the best man, all the male party except groom...

There's a maker's name on there that I can't make out. Have you checked if they are still in business? Just for the fun of it, I mean?

New to brewing, my set up decent?

The bottling wand has another advantage. When your bottle is nearly full, ease up and slow the flow. Bring the beer right to the tippy-top, as full as you can get without overflowing. Pull out the wand and presto! The perfect amount of head space, precisely the same every time.

Hack: Wheeled Fermentor DOLLY at Harbor Freight

The best things about the HF wooden dolly are the heavy duty casters. You can remove the casters and throw the wood in the fireplace and still be money ahead. For moving kettles and fermenters, I lay an old plywood kitchen cabinet door across the padded bolsters. Po' folks got po' ways, we...
