    Looking for the Usual Suspects...

Hi - I am from the Seattle, Northwest, area and am looking to try a Zombie Dust or Heady Topper which I cannot find around here to save my life. I've brewed clones but have nothing to compare them to. I am willing to trade any beer I can get my hands on around here to trade with one or both...

    New Belgium French Aramis

Has anyone tried this beer? I saw it tonight and my excitement grew as it always does when NB releases a new brew. I can honestly say this is the first time I've been disappointed by a NB beer. It's pretty gross. I got strong notes of raw pumpkin and grass. The grass was intentional, I think...

    Must Have Hop to grow

I went with Magnum and Cascade as I figured I'd be covered for both bittering and flavor/aroma use that way. In terms of fence coverage, the Magnum blow up on year two and can cover a lot of space. The Cascades have been more sparse, although I can probably blame my dog for that as she tends to...

A Likely Paranoid "What's Eating Me?" Post

Thank you for the info and advice. I think you are correct, I had some friends and family come over this weekend and they also thought they were aphids. I'll take a stab at them using your suggestions and whatever I can find via google. Much appreciated!

A Likely Paranoid "What's Eating Me?" Post

Hi - I have second year Magnum and Cascade hops that are under attack! I think... I have a lot of leaves that mysteriously developed holes and brown/dead leaves with no sign of intruders. Eventually, I saw a lot (and I mean hundreds) of ladybug larvae on my two plants (approx. 8 bines). As...

Comon for only one tall bine?

My Casacde did the same thing it's first year. It's a little skimpy this year too (year 2). The Magnums I started at the same time yielded 5 times as much last year and are going gang busters this year. I think the Cascades are just a more shy breed.

    Raspberry Infection? No clue... (pics!)

Thanks, all! I feel a bit better about it. I also popped off the top this morning for a quick sniff and it smelled great, which is encouraging. I'll give it a week to sit and go from there. Thanks for all the input. Appreciated....

    Raspberry Infection? No clue... (pics!)

Hi all – This is my first attempt at dry-hopping with fruit and I’m wondering if this is a normal raspberry reaction or if I may have acquired an infection. It’s a Hefeweizen brew. Once fermentation was complete I took 2.5 lbs of frozen raspberries, covered them in water and then heated them...

    homegrown hops

Hi - I used my own fresh hops for the first time this September. You'll want to boil your hops as normal for your wort. Then strain before putting in the fermenter. I dry-hopped my beer using the homegrown hops and had no issues. From what I've read on here, hops are typically not a...

I can't believe this is really happening!

Congrats on your brewery and your KS project! One strong piece of advice, be sure you DO NOT offer any alcohol in your KS rewards (as noted in your $1000 pledge section, specifically" "and of course pairings with all of your Two Kids favorites"). Kickstarter will not allow the sale of alcohol...

    Raisins for carbonation?

I was speaking with my friend's dad a few months back. He was a homebrewer back in the early 90's and he was telling me he used raisins for carbonating a few times. He said it worked great. No bombs, good head, etc. I didn't ask how may per bottle, or if he took steps to sanitize them, but I do...

    Rasberry Extract

I made my first raspberry/wheat brew a couple months back and also struggled with whether I should go the extract route or with whole raspberries. Eventually, mostly due to ease of use, I went with the extract. My LHBS had it for around $9 for 4oz. I added 3oz at bottling time and I have...

    2nd brew .. Needing help

Hi. The only way to know for sure when your beer is done fermenting is to take hydrometer readings on consecutive days. If the readings are consistent then you are done and can move to a secondary for clearning (that's a whole other debate, of course). Be sure to buy a hydrometer if you don't...

    Cheap digital scale?

I bought this scale off Amazon for about $9. It's small but works great! I've used it to measure hop ounces as well as bigger bowls to measure out DME, etc. It has a tare function, seems very accurate and is of good quality all around. Can't beat it for the price...

    Predicamet

If you crack it and just have a beer or two, just twist the cap on as tight as possible and hope for the best. I've had growlers stay decent for days without an issue. If tighten the cap and don't crack it until next weekend, you may be okay carb wise. 4 or 5 days max in my experience.

What beer must I try on my trip to Seattle this weekend?

If you are in Fremont, definitely stop by the Fremont Brewery. http://fremontbrewing.com/ It's a great little brewery with good beer. Since you're in the general area, further South in SoDo (South Downtown) is the Georgetown Brewery. You'll see a lot of info about Manny's Pale Ale in the...

    still no growth

No worries. I planted my first hops in mid-March and didn't see anything until a week ago. About 4 weeks, I'd estimate. I was a little worried as I thought I had waited for our "cold" Washington weather to pass... and then it proceeded to snow on my hops they day I planted them. Go figure crazy...
