Extremely interested in making mead - need help

Hi, I brewed my first batch of beer Saturday, and I eventually stumbled on this message board. I read the wikipedia article about mead, and now I am very interested! I love honey and alcohol, so it should be a pretty sweet drink to make!! (pun intended.) I do have a few questions though...

    Some of my labels

I like the Guden and upon further inspection the IPA label. Is that apple a real picture pasted into the art or artwork? I like the chalkboard/map in the background pointing to India. Very clever!

    More Labels...

I personally like these labels; Old fashion-like, simple, and to the point. I think they look great!!

    Ideas for second brew?

Hey guys, what's up? Well I did my first brew last Saturday, and it went well overall. She's still in the primary, going to rack into the secondary Saturday. In 2 weeks from this Saturday (bottle day) I plan on brewing another batch. Might as well, since by the time those bottles are finished...

    Fermentation stalled?

Well I stared at the airlock for about two minutes, and I got to see two bubbles! So obviously something is going on in there still. I'm just not used to staring down an object for more than 10 seconds lol. Well thanks for the advice, and when it's in the secondary I'll provide everyone some...

    Fermentation stalled?

Thanks. Yes it did ferment at border-line temperatures when the fermentation was active. I had my air conditioner on 65 degrees, but the fermentation was so active it was at 77. The temperatures dropped yesterday, and now they are at around 71-72. Well I guess I'll just go ahead and leave it...

    Fermentation stalled?

It seems my fermentation has stalled. I see no more bubbles coming from the airlock. I put it in the primary Saturday night. I had very active fermentation a few hours after pitching and all Sunday. I had about 2 bubbles a second, and now today (Monday) there appears to be none. Is there...

    Help with original gravity?

Hey guys, I did the Big River Brown Ale . Midwest did not supply me with what the original gravity should read. Is there any way you can tell from just the ingredients? The original gravity I calculated was: "1.054" (I suppose this is right. It's where there is the 1.0, then 10-90 then...

    Thermostat?

Hey guys what's up. I just posted in the beginners brewing that I brewed my first batch! Well so far all is going well, good steady fermentation going on. I have a question though. Right now I have my air conditioner on 65 degrees, and it's only cooling my beer to 77. It hasn't passed 80 yet...

    Brewed first batch up yesterday!!!!!

What should I do? Since I turned on my old fridge, even at the highest setting it's 46 degrees in there. I can't keep my air conditoner on 65 degrees for 6 weeks, or I will have a $250 ++ electric bill! Am I just going to have to invest in a thermostat for the fridge?

    Brewed first batch up yesterday!!!!!

Oh yes, I will most likely brew every 3 weeks, to keep a good steady stockpile available. The first few brews I do, I'll probably end up giving away half. So every 3 weeks actually won't be too bad. Right now unfortunately it's fermenting at around 76 degrees. I have my air condition on 65...

    Brewing Activity 3/9-3/11

If Fed Ex keeps it's word for Saturday delivery, then I will be brewing my first batch ever. It will be the Big River Brown Ale from midwest supplies. Should be pretty fun. I'm going to have a good friend over, and my father wanted to check it out as well. So Saturday will be full of brewing...

    The time is nearing!

Well, as I just mentioned in my other post, my ingriedents will be here on Saturday! What a fun day that will be!! I found a cooking supply store that sells long stainless steal spoons. I think that's the only thing left that I need! I actually went and bought a stainless steal fine strainer, to...

Question directed to any Baton Rouge or Louisiana Brewer

It's ok now! I had no clue that Fed Ex delivers on Saturday. I didn't look closely enough to the shipping date, and it's expected to be here on the 10th! SWEET! Me and my friend are going to be outside drinking beer and brewing beer, how fun will that be!!

Question directed to any Baton Rouge or Louisiana Brewer

Yeah, I found the Homebrew club's website. I would probably join them too, but I'm a little too new right now. I want to gain some personal knowledge before I face my peers, hehe. I wish they had a brew shop around here!

Question directed to any Baton Rouge or Louisiana Brewer

Hey guys, what's up? Well I live in Livingston Parish, and I recently ordered a kit from midwest supplies and Tuesday I ordered some ingriedents for my first batch. Well the website said 3 day delivery, so naturally I thought Friday I would get my ingriedents. Well midwest sent me an email...

How water do I actually boil?

Thanks. The only problem is that I'm having a hard time finding a local brew shop. I live in Louisiana (about 10-15 minutes from Baton Rouge) and from my understanding the nearest place is by the LSU campus, which is about a good 20-25 minute drive at least (so an hour long venture for a packet...
