    My first batch

We are just alike then. As I've said, I brewed my first batch 4 weeks ago. I just bought a new 6.5 gallon fermenter (glass so I can see the action) just the other day. I got to wait for Friday (pay day) and I am going to order new beer ingriedents and go to the store and get 5 gallons worth of...

    Lets talk dry yeast

To be honest, Munton did the job for me. Used it with a brown ale and I have absolutely no complaints. I had 2-3 bubbles/sec after a few hours. Very productive yeast might I say. Didn't even hydrate it. No complaints about Munton here.

    My first batch

I'd leave it in the secondary at least 2 weeks. The typical routine for brewing is 1-2-3. That's 1 week primary 2 weeks secondary and 3 weeks bottle conditioning. Not much fermentation goes on in the secondary, it just allows time for the sediments to fall to the bottom. I bottled my first...

Next steps, and some questions on 1st brew

Get used to it. Even some beers take up to 6 months to a year to be drinkable. Noteably some Imperial Stouts and Barelywine, lagers, amongst others. Meads and wines also take this long. You will shortly find out you want to try some different things, but will have to wait a long time. The trick...

Purchased another 6.5 gallons carboy yesterday!

Well my hobby is now officially becoming addicting. I went to a local homebrew shop and purchased a 6.5 gallon carboy. Now I have 2 primaries and 1 secondary!! All I need now is some ingridients, and I will get brew #2 on it's way. I'm also going to make a cider. For now I will probably have 1...

Next steps, and some questions on 1st brew

    a) Where would I find the target SG? Is that something that the kit should have said, or is there a general rule of thumb? ------------------------------ If you didn't take an original gravity reading, that is okay. But take a gravity reading when you can. (Sanitize your autosiphon and...

    Beer loss in carboy.

Well I'm not a professional brewer, but I would just leave it in the primary. Maybe leave it in the primary 2-3 weeks instead of 1. But if you decide to transfer it in the bucket, make sure you sanitize the hell out of it. The problem I see with this though is too much oxygen exposure. If you...

    AB has gone too far

I don't see the problem. In my honest opinion, it's good to start teaching the kids the responsibility of drinking at a young age (say 15-18.) Sounds bad, but look at Europe. The legal age in most countries for beer is 16, and those kids are way more responsible and knowledgable about the...

    How to harvest old yeast

Is there an online guide or How To, on how I can rinse, salvage, store and reuse the yeast cake that forms on the bottom of fermenters? Thanks

    Input on Fermentation "closet"

I use my old refrigerator and a Johnson thermostat (almost all homebrew websites have them.) I can put 2 6.5 gallon carboys and 48 bottles in there at one time, and keep them at a perfect 69 degrees (or whatever temp.) I don't see how it can get any easier.

    pagan?

It's all good. The thing is no matter what aspect of anything you'll have a religious side and a non religious aspect as well. Therefore arguing and debating will never lead us anywhere. At the end of the day it's what you feel is right. And a matter of fact, even though I'm agonstic, I've...

    pagan?

If there was a flood, I don't see how this flood would carve river shaped rocks. It would just settle on top of the existing rocks, and then evaporate/receed back into it's original position. Also if the flood caused the carving of the grand canyon, it seems that other regions highly populated...

Worried about Conan going to Tonight Show

I don't know why. But I love Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He is very witty, quick, and I like how he brings the audience into the show. I used to not like Conan that much. To be honest, I think his earlier stuff was kind of lame. But he developed into an excellent late night host (except his...

    SWMBO sleeping habits.

We fall asleep together most of the time. The only exceptions are when she has to work on weekends and I don't. Either that or every now and then I'll bore her eyeballs out by hitting a little mary jane and playing video games :) But overall we go to sleep together.

    pagan?

If we look at the Grand Canyon, we see the remains of where the river once flowed through. Unsuprisingly, we see the river is not too far from the canyons. We see water carvings on the side of the canyon. Just using a common sensical thought we know that rivers can cut through rocks and do, but...

    pagan?

Agnostic here. I believe everyone has the right to believe in whatever religion/philosophy they chose, however respecting other peoples idea is essential. I have many Christian friends, agnostic friends and atheist friends. I am totally open to them and they to me. It's pretty wonderful...

    Problem with second runnings?

I personally feel it's either a.) Reusing the siphoning hose. The delay could have easily blew in some bacteria b.) Leaking wort chiller c.) POSSIBLY some airborn infection from doing outside (don't know about this though) d.) Something falling into the fermenter after sanitation...

In need of a good Golden Ale recipe

Yep that's it. Jeez, I didn't even realise it is a wheat. Oh well, I may just have to find something else to brew :)

In need of a good Golden Ale recipe

Hey guys. I'm not sure if any of you have tried Flying Dog beers, but I do thoroughly enjoy the Golden Ale that they have. Good hop taste, just not as bitter/hoppy as a pale ale. I'm assuming it taste like an English Bitter (though I've never tried one.) Has anyone tried this, and if so, know of...

    Actions for new Aluminum pot.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you boil water in the kettle 2-3 times (I'd probably go for 4) the evaporated oxygen from boiling will provide you will a sufficient oxygen layer around the aluminum, preventing taste leaking in the wort. Also, to be safe, make sure if you boil...
