FYI: if I use the full amount of Fuggles in the full boil the IBU is 27.9.

When is it All Grain time??

My first two were extract with steeping, my third is going to be a PM (next week) and I'm really thinking about going AG for #4. I thought it was some crazy process but after watching a couple of youtube videos and reading here it really isn't that difficult. I have three coolers so I can...

    TAP-A-DRAFT: first impression...

Sorry about reviving an old thread but my question is related. I've read on other forums that people were not happy with the tap-a-draft because the tube was placed right where the trub was on the bottom and it sucked it up. Do any of you run into this issue or do you use gelatin/cold...

How long will a partial mash kit last?

I am planning on ordering two partial mash kits from Austin homebrew. I plan on making one next weekend (the 14th) and the other three weeks later. Will the second kit's grains be ok sitting for a month? I assume I should ask that they not be cracked for the one I plan on doing later. Thanks

    25% Homebrew Products @ Amazon.com

I can't get it to work either. The promotion states that every item in your cart must be sold by Amazon.com (not a reseller). I removed items that were not from amazon and it still did not work.

    25% Homebrew Products @ Amazon.com

If the item is sold from amazon direct (not a reseller) it is free if the order is over $25. Just be sure to choose free shipping on the final page (they will select basic pay shipping by default). For example, here is a product that qualifies for free shipping: Designing great beers. Next to...

There isn't much in stock. Maybe that will change over the next few weeks.

    25% Homebrew Products @ Amazon.com

Here is a list of all of the products on sale. I just received $150 in amazon gift certificates today. I wonder what they will be spent on... :) (that is if they have anything decent).

So my "how's this pot?" thread got me thinking....

I just purchased one at Lowes on clearance for $35 (normal clearance price of $50 but a knob is missing). If you have a Lowes nearby check it out. Otherwise this one at amazon (the one you have linked) was recommended.

    Your Favorite Kits

Wind River is interesting. The pricing is good and they use steeping grains. I may just order a kit from them for batch #3.

Why does commercial beer get skunky?

I just had my first two the other day and I thought they were pretty horrible. I assume there are good english brown ales...? Regarding skunking, if room temp/cold/room temp will skunk a beer then why doesn't cold crashing skunk a homebrew? You ferment at 65, chill it for a few days then go...

    Hello from Algonquin, IL

Hey there. I'm in Lake in the Hills. I have a whole two batches under my belt so I'm as new as you. I have an Amber ale and pale ale. Neither are ready to drink yet. OLB - how do you join the Chicago group?

My first full wort boil, any adjustments needed?

Sorry for the hijack, but I just purchased a turkey fryer with aluminum and I was wondering if you should always boil water first or do you only need to do that when it's new? Is it possible to scrub off the oxide layer and need to boil again? I am also going to do my first full boil. Thanks.

    turkey fryer

I just went to the Lowes near my office and they had the Saf-t fryer for $50. It was the floor model (assembled) and the knob to control the heat was missing. The guy offered it to me for $35 to I jumped on the deal. I can use pliers for now and find a knob. Thanks for the tip on Lowes.

    metalic after taste

That was quite funny. I just saw Metallica this past week and must still have them on the brain...

    metalic after taste

If you google "metallica beer taste" you will find a lot of info, such as: According to "How to Brew" Metallic Metallic flavors are usually caused by unprotected metals dissolving into the wort but can also be caused by the hydrolysis of lipids in poorly stored malts. Iron and aluminum can...

    Bottle conditioning experiment

I really wonder why all of the kits are written "wrong". I'd think they would get more business if they taught new brewers how to properly age their beers.

    turkey fryer

According to a few posters those safety bars can be easily removed so you can use any pot. I just went to Lowes to purchase that exact fryer because it is supposed to be clearanced. It was only $5 off.
