Sanitizer Mixup! Is my beer done for?

Interesting. I have learned something. I won't be rinsing now. I use one step for my equipment and rinse. Won't do that now.. And, I use Star-San for my bottles, and rinse...and I won't do that now either. Patrick

    Improving flavor

Probably will mellow out during conditioning. What was the recipe? (fellow newb...interested, because I have a holiday spice ale in bottles conditioning) Patrick

Sanitizer Mixup! Is my beer done for?

I use the same "no-rinse" product...and I rinse too. I also use tap water added to my wort to bring my level up to 5 gallons in the fermenter. Unless you have really bad stuff in your water...this isn't an issue RIGHT? Patrick

Sanitizer Mixup! Is my beer done for?

Sounds like you got some "one-step" type stuff. I think you did everything exactly correctly. What am I missing? Patrick

    Magic Hat and Pyramid

Pyramid's Hefe was one of the worst I have ever tried...meh. Magic Hat doesn't do anything for me. I think they try too much crazy stuff instead of focusing on making great beers. Patrick

    Hop Stupid from Lagunitas...

That seems insane. I have tried it fresh at the brewery. I think the Simcoe stood out the most to me. Very strong grapefruit finish... Patrick

    is this bad?

Fine either way...but as long as the airlock is sanitized, and your water quality is good (I.E. it doesn't make you sick when you drink it)...isn't Vodka overkill? It is the same as topping your wort off with tap water (which I do). Patrick

    is this bad?

If it is a three piece airlock...next time do this. 1. Insert the base piece (with no water in it) into the hole in the fermenter lid. 2. Drop the cylindrical piece in. 3. Fill with water (notice the cylindrical piece has the nice top on it that lets the water flow over it, but not into the...

    Methods of obtaining bottles

Hmmm...like someone said, go to the source. A fraternity house. I could have collected a case of bottles a week back then. Maybe not all pop offs...but a good portion. Patrick

    Bottle Conditioning Temperatures

So, what you are saying is I need to pull it back out of the fridge, and relax...?? ;) Patrick

    Bottle Conditioning Temperatures

3/4 cup table sugar. Strange it is only in one bottle. I put the bottle in the fridge last night...and this morning the foam has gone down! Patrick

    Bottle Conditioning Temperatures

I have a question that is somewhat related to bottle conditioning. I have a batch in bottles (for 1 weeks now). It is a Hefe...and one brew has a strange appearance to it. It just so happens to be in a clear bottle. It actually has a little foam or head on top..in the airspace. The...

    Glass Primary

Ok...I have to go back on my original statement a bit. I didn't lose any beer...but I came darn close. I made a 4.75 gal batch, and put it in a 5 gallon carboy. I got about two drops of foam in my blow off tube. It is a Extract batch of xmas ale. I am going to top it off a bit with a bit...

Lagunitas Tap Room - Buzz around town

I stopped by Lagunitas today. Wow...good beer, but they love the HOPS! Loved the tour. Great stuff. Real beer geeks. Patrick

    Glass Primary

I think it depends on the beer. I just brewed a brown xmas ale, and used a 5 gallon glass carboy with blow off tube. I read so much, and was scared of a mess, so I only topped off to 4.75 gallons (below the shoulders of the carboy)...and it could have made a full 5 gallons! It didn't need but...

how long in primary for a heffe?

What yeast do you use? I have tried WL300 (being consumed quickly), and WL380 (in the fermentor still). I feel the WL300 has a bit too much banana for my liking. Patrick

    Christmas Brown...critique?

Brewed tonight. I didn't leave the cinnamon in..I screened pretty much everything out. The only change I made was to switch the cascade to the last hop addition. My LHBS had cascade pellets in stock...but they were 7.5 AA...!!! Patrick

how long in primary for a heffe?

I am a newbie...but I have brewed two Hefes now...and 2.5 weeks should be fine in the primary, before bottling. Both of my hefes quit bubbling (blow off tube / airlock) after 1 week. I don't take gravity readings...(sorry)... I used White labs yeast for both. Patrick

    Christmas Brown...critique?

A few other questions.. 1. Should I leave the cinnamon sticks in the wort, and place in the primary? 2. Should I drop 1 oz of Willamette hops out? 3oz might be a bit too hoppy... Patrick

    Christmas Brown...critique?

Been reading a bunch of recipes here: http://hbd.org/cgi-bin/recipator/recipes Most use honey in the boil for winter / xmas ales... Any merit to this? Patrick
