    hop from a cutting

One of the tricks for rooting cuttings is only have two leaves and a small section of the bine. Put them in a bucket with some water in the shade. That will minimize the main problem of cuttings, which is transpiration from the leaves. Rooting hormone would not hurt, either.

What are three year old hop plants worth?

$5 is about what the big sellers charge, so that limits your pricing to $5. I advise that you just trade them for future supplies or beer. You will be happier.

when to plant in upstate NY?

If they get a little nipped, they will send more bines. Stick them in the ground, imo.

    Self Watering Containers

I have made a bunch of self watering containers, mainly for tomatoes and peppers. I see that there are a lot of container farmers here so I thought that I would share the design. I have made them out of 55 gallon plastic drums, but you could use what you have, down to 5 gallon buckets with the...

    2008 Amarillo hops.

I have used hops that old and had good results. The key to storage is to make sure that they are dried completely and vacuum packed. I had some that were not dried at all and they got a little icy. The beer turned out fine, though.

WTB: 3-Liter Growler from Stone Brewery

I have the 2003 edition, year 6. I have not consumed the beer, but I do not know if it is still good. The 2 liter bottles are $30 from Northern Brewer. I don't know what you had in mind for a price.

    Considering selling my single-tier brewstand.

How much do you think the hose connections to the burners will cost? Do they need special fittings? When you say that the frame has a built in manifold, does the gas travel through the steel frame to each burner or is there piping inside the steel frame?

    Are Hops an Invasive Species?

Invasive? Not really as the female plant will only produce the hop cones that we use in beer. They will spread by their roots. Invasive defines those plants that produce copious amount of seed, such as dandelions.

    Rhizome swapping thread 2011

It just snowed here in Denver, so it will be a few weeks before I dig up the Centennials and Saaz that I have. I will wait and see what comes up. There were a few shoots that poked up prior to the snow. The snow is pretty typical here, as the frost free date is May 11.

    Corona Label Removal?

I just soaked a bunch of Corona bottles in Starsan for about a week. The key is to remove them from the Starsan and let them dry. The labels flake off like they were a sand crust. It was much easier than scrubbing them when they were wet.

    Another good use for Starsan

It is easier to remove the label if you let them dry first.
