Obama - Prof. Gates - SGT. Crowley

Since when does someone have to choose a beer based on what political statement they want to make? They should just drink whatever beer they really like and leave it at that. The media has made WAY too much of this beer choice thing. Obama is a tool, but he has the right to drink/like whatever...

BrewPal for iPhone- anyone else using it?

Does anyone know how to clear a recipe in brewpal? Every time I open it, the recipe I was working on before opens. I don't want to have to erase every setting individually to start from scratch.

    Just in from Portland

Yeah, it is just a policy (unwritten) that rare beers not be distributed in kegs or bottles or growlers etc. They did this at every brewery I stopped at (and that was a lot) – I kept wanting mass quantities of fresh hop IPAs and they said they only have limited amounts that they just keep...

    Just in from Portland

Yup, 99% of the time it is stout/porter and vanilla ice cream. I have seen some weird things on menus though (hefe with lemon gelato). I am going to try a Rogue Hazelnut Brown and Butter Pecan next since I have a clone of it fermenting as we speak!!!

    Just in from Portland

YES! We went up there when we did our mini microbrew tour/anniversary vacation last fall. My favorite of Mt. Hood's was their stout. The bartender even made us our very first beer float with it - OMG! It was so good we bought a growler of it to take back to Idaho. It was gone the next night, and...

Hoppy Doppelsticke Recipe - please critique

Update... I had never had a sticke, let alone a doppelsticke before creating this recipe. The style just sounded like I should enjoy it. Well.... last night I happened to try a Urige Doppelsticke and I DID NOT ENJOY IT AT ALL! I am sooooooo glad I found examples of the style before brewing...

Could you do it before October when all the breweries are making fresh hop IPAs? Those are always my favs and they never want to sell me growlers! DAmmit!

I will start by saying that I DO NOT buy Widmer beers at the store. I just don't like what they commercially offer. But what they have AT their brewpub is really good stuff! Stuff you can't get in bottles. When I was there last October, they had a sampler tray that was full of Oktoberfests...

    Brewing a Oktoberfest beer

With that ale yeast, ferment at 60º for a week, transfer to secondary, then lower your temp 5º per day until you get to 35º. Keep it at 35º for as long as possible (at least 4-6 weeks).

How do you do a protein rest?

In found memory of Lando. Though he was warned, thy temptations have taken another brother to the dark side to be tormented for all of eternity. R.I.P. Lando :(:(:(:(:(

Bottling from taps - Perlick owners

So let me get this straight... the device this guy is making screws into a standard perlick forward sealing faucet? Then all you have to do is put the tube in a bottle and pour like normal, then cap? And that is supposed to produce fully carbed, bottled beer that will remain intact for an...

    Just in from Portland

Hellza Yeahzaa! I was only in Portland for a few hours, but no matter where I drove (got lost), I kept running into microbreweries! I love getting "lost"! ;);) Widmer is a sweet place with a ton of great food and ton of great beers - stuff they don't bottle. I will never forget the X-114 IPA...

    Show us your Kegerator

Do you really have Bully Wheat on tap? If so... Is it a clone or the real thing? My friend (who's from KS) and I tried a Bully Wheat clone TWICE - we both ended up with two different crap beers.

Help me choose a beer for my wedding rehearsal dinner

Take a nice weekend road trip down to Ellicottville Brewing with your bride. Welcome to Ellicottville Brewing Co! They have the "Brew-Ski" sampler (beer samples on a snow ski) and make some pretty delicious beers! And I know you can get kegs because my father in law got a couple for a party...

What is the reason that commercial beer is so much better on tap?

A lot of bars use a blend of C02 and Nitrous on all their draft beers. It truly does change the flavor of the beer. There is a place like that locally, and whenever I have a beer there (no matter what it is) I always say "Wow, this is the best {fill in the blank} I've ever had!"
