    Thermowell Oil?

We use peanut oil. Just in case it gets in the process it won't be an incident. We had mineral oil get in a tank one time. It wasn't pleasant.

    Sorting through all the noise

You can make great beer with what you have. Follow the directions that come with the kit. If something doesn't match what the directions say exactly, don't freak out. Best thing to do on brew day is, if something doesn't match what the directions say to write it down on the actual instruction...

Does anyone else have THAT homebrew friend?

I got the opposite. The wife loves beer. Gives me great feedback on when I've hit a homerun, and when I struck out. Problem is when I hit a home run it seems like I get to drink a lot less of it.

going to be a long night

I've been thinking about this stuck sparge situation. I'm thinking about doing a three way valve on my pump that will let me push back up into the mash tun. When we have stuck filtrations at work on 8 meter filters we'll sometimes push the liquid back up the bottom of the filter to uncompact...

    What's happening?

Sugar is sugar. That being said if you have never made this exact recipe before I would stick with priming sugar. Then maybe make it again and use honey to prime with.

    Decisions-Decisions

+1 on the 7.8 gallon fermenters. There will come a moment when you think.. ohh yea i can brew some hopslam clone and put it in my 6 gallon fermenter. Two days later you'll find the air lock stuck in the drop ceiling and a moldy mess on the outside of the pail. At which point you'll remember...

Electrical idiot here, questions about load

Without knowing the breaker size its tough to guess. Probably never be a problem so long as 2 to 3 appliances dont start at once. Then even a 20 amp might blow.

Have I been batch sparging wrong?

I'm really lucky I guess. Bell's charges us like a buck for a pound of base malt, and even the specialty malts are like a buck thirty. There's a huge mill in the grain room you can use that does a nice medium crush, and you can just double crush if you are looking for more.

My keg beer is flat, help

It needs to be cold. Less than 40ish. Also once it's cold you can carb a keg in no time at all by shaking it. You will actually hear the regulator let gas in as you shake it. When you don't hear the regulator actuate when you shake it.. it's taken up all the gas it will at the set pressure.

    Guilty movie pleasures

Ok I'm gunna bite. Shoot em up. Paul Giamatti and Clive Owen and yes it's god awful, but it's so fun. And the movie I have to turn off because my wife gives me **** about watching it so much.... Friends with benefits.

Step control motorized ball valve possible?

It's definitely possible. I'd see if you can find a V cut valve rather than a ball valve. There is little difference between the range of 35-75 percent open in a ball valve. Any valve can be made automated. It just depends on how much money you want to throw at it. The V cut valves give...

Side by side kegerator/fermentation fridge: Please Help

:(It's compressor oil. Along with the refrigerant there is oil in there that keeps the compressor lubed. It might run forever like that. It might run for a week.

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

Me: I mess around with brewing some of my own beers from time to time. Person: Yea I've heard that is kind of taking off as a hobby, can you make me some bud light? Me: Die in a fire.

Question about Mash Tun...whats the best hardening agent to use on outside of tun??

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BOB8P6/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 You can form it into any shape. It sticks. It's waterproof, and you can drill it tap it. It's basically as hard as steel when it cures. Use gloves it smells to all hell when you mix it.
