    Suitable Material For Brewery "Backsplash"

If there is a metal recycling place near you, or a place that handles sheet steel you can go in and ask if they have any drop pieces of stainless. Drop is just basically a piece that was cut from a larger piece, and/or is an odd dimension. They will usually sell it for scrap price. My work...

opening CO2 tank valve all the way...important?

Chlorine cylinders are the same thing. Most gas cylinders recommend opening all the way. Liquid valves usually are left 1/4 from full open.

Anyone using salt water (brine) for chilling?

Salt eats stainless. That being said it takes years for it to happen. We have a tank that we use specifically for salt slurry. It's stainless and about 20 years old. It's starting to weep out of the welds. It should be getting replaced this year with a fiberglass tank. Salt also leaks out...

    Bells suing a small brewer

They are in fact 1. Not suing the smaller brewery. They've asked them to not trademark the name innovation. When they were turned down they filed a sort of grievance with the federal trademark place to deny their application to use innovation as a protected name of a business. 2. From what...

    Dry hop causing overcarbonation?

Hops in of themselves don't affect carbonation. The act of dry hopping can introduce things that would. Also the white sugar, was it boiled? Or otherwise sanitized? It's possible you caught an infection on the dry hop batch and not on the regular batch just out of chance.

Any Ramp/Soak PID Users? (not st1000pid)

There are some yokogawa pid's that will do this, but I have no idea where to source one. We use them for pot control with ramping. It works well. Just keep in mind the ramp is setpoint based. The pv might not actually get there.

Things about your co-workers that annoy you

I work at a chemical plant. Basically everything is more flammable than gas. On top of the hydrogen and acetylene reactions that are run. Anywho, had a guy decide that walking outside the fence to smoke was really far. So he decided that the roof would be the place to smoke. The roof where...

Oak cubes? I have oak firewood, why would I buy cubes?

I had a buddy of mine do white oak cubes in his smoker to toast the cubes. It worked awesome. Then soaked them in some woodruff reserve. The cubes went into a dragon milk stout clone. The fiends drank 5 gallons of it up in a couple a weeks.

Getting an RO system - have a question!

In regards to home built RO water systems. Make sure to stay with stainless or proper plastic type fittings for anything in contact with the water for any length of time. Especially if it's deionized. Deionized water really wants minerals in it. It will corrode and erode damn near any metal...

    I Love My LHBS because.....

Love it because they have everything I've ever gone in for, and the prices are cheaper than what you can get it for on the internet. They also have a giant electric grain mill. Did I mention they had Hopslam by the skid load in the walk in cooler, where they store all the yeast and hops.

    What Is Your Carrry?

Glock 19 Gen 3. I know all the arguments 9mm not enough knock down power blah blah. I wouldn't want to get shot with a .22 let alone a 9mm. It's defense. I'll pull the trigger until the threat is stopped.

    unacceptable taste after force carbonation

I believe if it's a metallic taste, it's carbonic acid. Made when you dissolve co2 into a liquid. It should pass after 3-4 days.

Bottling from keg - tried it and need help

There is a fundamental misunderstanding of beer line length and relationship to foaming. I know there is all kinds of purist that have beer lengths for certain types of beers and all that. The long and short of it, is the more pressure you run the more line length you need. Anything under 5...

Shameless episode last night *may contain spoilers*

130 proof beer or whatever he was claiming, still entertaining. I almost think his reaction to drinking the first sip is what we all did on the first one we made.
