Theme To Your Brewing / Theme "Sets"?

Thanks FreshZ. I was freaking out about John getting back to me; a friend came up to me at a party that night and asked what it felt like to talk to an elder god. And yeah, I agree with the sentiment concerning going overboard with a theme. Flying Dog always got to me a bit, but they are moving...

    Expensive beer you homebrew

My sour cost me a good bit, and sadly the recipe is not very well received. Hoping it turns out better when done than experience would predict.

Theme To Your Brewing / Theme "Sets"?

I quickly made a twitter account called Desperate Hours Brewing, after the song "These First Few Desperate Hours" by the Mountain Goats, and it ended up with the lead singer/songwriter getting in touch with me to say how happy he was with the idea. So my first five beers are all going to be...

Is this looking right for my first sour?

Oh okay. I didn't think it was time to bottle at all; it's only two weeks old. I was more thrown by the yeast death comment and if I could salvage anything by bottling.

Is this looking right for my first sour?

Well the second response is more what I was thinking, but the first makes sense. It''s had yeast added at two points though so death confuses me, albeit maybe overexposure to bacteria? I was going to let it age a good while, should I just bottle now?

First IPA Recipe - Can folks take a look?

Oh okay. Thanks for all of that; really incredible to know. Just put 4lbs of Golden Light on COD at my homebrew shop for tomorrow, and I plan to cut out the crystal entirely. Edit: New recipe is up top!

First IPA Recipe - Can folks take a look?

Did not see your post Yooper! I went with amber on a suggestion from the store and a personal preference for amber, but I could definitely see the viability of using light or extra light. I'm hoping for a fuller body, which I was scared I wouldn't hit with light.

First IPA Recipe - Can folks take a look?

Awesome, thanks. Admittedly, I do not completely know how to do a dry hop, unless it's just adding hops to the secondary. I'd love to try it though, and need to read up on it. So a revised hop schedule: 60: Columbus 1oz 15: Cascade 1oz 10: Cascade 1oz 5: Northern Brewer 1oz (?) Dry Hop...

Hello from a forest near Baltimore!

Yeah, I agree completely. The IPA will likely be closer to a hoppy APA, and it's staying incredibly simple. If it weren't for the sour though, I don't think I ever would have bought the equipment!

Hello from a forest near Baltimore!

Just got home from college, and have been killing to start brewing. So far nothing bottled, but I have a sour in secondary and a vanilla porter fermenting. I keep the recipes updated here. The name is from a song by the Mountain Goats, and if you're into them, I've made John Darnielle smile by...

Recipe is the first one on this page if helpful. Looks like a pellicle combined with a yeast cake:
