Heads up: 40% Deluxe Starters Kit at NB

What am I missing here? Is it $159.99 or is it 40% off $159.99? I add it to my cart and it just shows the $159.99 but it looks like that is the price before discount. Is there a code? I have a friend that might be very interested in this if the price was right and I'd love to get him into...

    Kenmore 5.1 Keezer…

Cool, I'm currently wrestling with whether I want to make mine out of a chest freezer or a mini-fridge. I was kinda surprised to find that they are both right about in the same price range. I only really want to fit 2 kegs so a mini fridge would do it, but I'm leaning towards a freezer so...

    Kenmore 5.1 Keezer…

Looks nice! It's not deep enough for the kegs to fit in there without the collar, correct?

    stick-on thermomter on bucket

My stick-on is reading 68-70, both boxes are colored. Are the stick-ons a better reading of the wort temp of the ambient temp? I'm wondering if I should swamp cooler it, but i think I'm only a degree or two off so I'm not sure if that effort is really necessary. If your stick-on read 68-70...

    Fermentation Temperature Question

I've got a Hefe (my first one) that's been in primary for about 48 hours now. The first 24 hours it smelled like regular wheat, but the last 24 hours it has smelled heavily of banana. It is at about 68-70. My basement is absolutely perfect for the high-60s this time of year, it seems...

    cornykeg.com kit

I've been shopping around. The LHBS has everything you need (double regulator, 5# CO2 tank, keg, etc) for $230. I'm not sure if it is a ball lock or pin lock though, forgot to check. I found that cornykeg.com has similar kits for sale for around $170. Not sure what shipping is but assuming $20...

Are all aluminum CO2 tanks the same?

    EDIT - wrong thread.

    Pitch now or wait?

See, I didn't do a starter. I certainly will from now on, but the point is that I didn't this time. The way I see it, if the original yeast is just experiencing a lag time (which I figure is probably the case) and if I pitch another vial in now, the total cells in those two pitches would be a...

    Pitch now or wait?

I picked up some WLP051 at the LHBS on my lunch break. I checked my wort and there is nothing going on in there right now. I am leaning towards re-pitching tonight and getting this show on the road.

    Pitch now or wait?

Thanks. Read up on both and I will go with WLP051 if I can't get my hands on some more Wyeast 1272. Of course, this is all assuming my current yeast doesn't go anywhere. I'm holding out faith that it will after some lag time, but if it doesn't I will be prepared.

    Pitch now or wait?

If I do need to re-pitch and the LHBS doesn't have Wyeast 1272, what should I get? I know they have White Labs, I don't know if they have Wyeast. Is there a White Labs equivalent to 1272?

    Pitch now or wait?

Nothing yet but it hasn't been nearly long enough yet to tell. I am going to go to the LHBS today at lunch and pick up some yeast, just to have it on hand. If I don't see anything in 72 hours, I will pitch it. This was an expensive batch too. Lesson learned. Needless to say, I will...

    Pitch now or wait?

Thanks for the advice, Gold. I'll wait the 72 hours and if it's dead as a doornail in there, I'll re-pitch. I'm hoping it won't come to that, but that smack pack wasn't swelling at all...time will tell.

    Pitch now or wait?

OG is 1.054. If I do end up re-pitching, do I have to get the same type of yeast? I'm not sure if my LHBS carries this exact one. It was Wyeast AAII 1272. I did not add any nutrient other than what is in the smack pack. I aerated by splashing nice and good when adding the wort to the top...

    Pitch now or wait?

If my yeast got nuked then there is going to be a lag time anyways and the same concern still applies. I pitched it, figured what the hell. We'll see what happens. I'm sure it will be fine. It usually is. RDWHAHB.

    Pitch now or wait?

Brewing as we speak. Chilling wort now. I got the ingredients from AHS today and the chill pack with the liquid yeast was warm. It's the Wyeast "activator" so I popped the internal nutrient bag about 2 1/2 hours ago. It has not began to visibly swell yet at all. When my wort gets down to...

    Fruit Beer Succulent Strawberry Blonde

I brewed this tonight. I ordered the ingredients from Austin Homebrew and the Cascade hops were 5.5% and the Saaz was 2.5% as opposed to the 7.5% and 5.8% respectively that the recipe calls for. I did 1oz cascade for the full 60 min and 1/2 oz Saaz at 20 and another 1/2 oz at 5 min. What...

    Problems hitting starting gravity

I always start a little over the 5 gallon mark so that when I lose some racking, taking hydrometer samples, etc that I end up with about 5 gallons when I am done. I think you'll be fine...the most that an extra 1/4th gallon is going to make can't be much more than a couple 1/10ths of a % ABV.

    Transporting my brew

My solution was to just brew a Hefeweizen for the trip. If it gets shaken up, no big deal :tank:

    Problems hitting starting gravity

Cool, thanks guys. I'll be sure to whip it up a little better in the future. I'd assume that the extra aeration would do a lot to help the yeast take off too, which I'd view as more important than getting an accurate reading. Overall, I'm really getting the extract process nailed down. I...
