BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

No, that would work with Windows XP, 7, and 8 but not 10. The reason for this is now every driver has to signed-off by Microsoft (hence the name signature) to ensure safety and compatibility which, in theory is a great idea. However, its left to the individual manufacturers to send in their...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

I'm not that surprised since Microsoft has been tightening down the screws on driver signatures with recent updates. Now its a royal PITA to install an unsigned driver with Windows 10 (you have to shut down signature checks via recovery mode, and need to dig up your recovery key to unlock...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Well after several hours of playing I finally got the brucontrol firmware installed. I was double clicking the button before but in the end the problem was the Adafruit drivers. The latest installer posted (v2.3.1) did not install the Feather drivers. After installing an old version (v2.0)...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Cool I'm going to just wire it straight up then and see what happens. Are there any indicators, besides lack of signal, that I would observe if it does need a external pull-up/down resistor / rc filter? Also I just got in a Adafruit Feather M0 WiFi yesterday and seem to be having a similar...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Random question for all of you using a cheap plastic flow meter in their rigs. Are you using a pull-up resistor and/or RC filter on them? I am installing a small 0.1-3LPM flow meter on my RO system to auto fill my system but in my research it seems some people use nothing i.e. direct wire the...

    New BruControl Build

Okay currently I have a 24v and 12v DIN PSU in my panel the 12v only powers the MEGA, and the MEGA only powers the RTD board and wifi shield (had the same train of thought @augiedoggy about spikes). Everything else is powered by the 24v PSU; pressure sensors, pumps, valves, relay board, pH and...

    New BruControl Build

Is there any benefit to having multiple power supplies of varying voltages? I mean if one goes out its not like another could "fill in" for it so would there be any downside to using a cheap buck converter board for the low draw devices such as the arduino and have everything else powered by 24v?

Will go ahead and order a few of those then and give it a shot. Do you happen to have a link @augiedoggy to the ones you purchased a quick scan of mouser yielded the typical 100s of options lol.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

My contractor is an Allen Bradley 24vDC coil so if I am understanding correctly I would use the 1N4001 across the DC coil. My pumps are all 24vDC brushless as well should I preemptively instal one here as well? And if so which line would I put in parallel with (I have three +24,com, and +5v...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Couple of questions. When you say wire these in parallel do you mean on the high voltage (load) side or on the low voltage (control) side? Second, I have a digital pressure sensor that I’m going to be using on my fermenter. I got it used for uber cheap and works great but it’s output is 0-10v...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

@BrunDog: As my luck would have it while I was working on my panel last night I had a brief power outage which made me rethink about some form of UPS for the interface only. I am looking at the Adafruit Powerboost 500 Shields and was wondering if you had used them before? It is not clear if they...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

So I had a little more time to play with it last night. Yes, when I use a reference resistor value of 430 it works perfectly when I change that to 4300 it reads zero. I will leave it as is since I also checked the probe calibration with a separate NIST probe in a temperature controlled bath...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Well I am happy to report that the Pt1000 probes and amplifier boards are in and working flawlessly. However, when I tried to put in the resistors reference value in my case 4300 Ohms the output was zero when I changed this to 430 Ohms as for a Pt100 board it worked fine. I checked the board to...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

I'm wiring up my panel now and have been following this thread closely over the past few days regarding the noise issues several people have been experiencing. What is the best way to hopefully prevent such issues? I realize that a specific cause has not been determined but what steps can I take...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Okay, I think then I will go ahead and order a single Pt1000 amplifier and test it out. Will report back the results for everyone. I don't have a specific reason as to why I would use a Pt1000 over a Pt100. It just so happens that I work in a lab where we solely use Pt1000 probes due to the...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Random question for everyone. I am currently setting up my brucontrol system and was thinking of using Pt1000 sensors (with the proper pt1000 amplifier) however, I haven't seen anyone using these, only the more common Pt100. Is there any reason why I couldn't use Pt1000s?

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Wow that is an awesome looking panel! I'm currently drawing out mine and was wondering what the second rail from the bottom was? I.E. the bottom is the breakers, the one up I don't know, the one above is power supplies and the top one is controllers / relay boards...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

This is very intriguing to me as an apartment brewer and I have been researching these "barometric" / jet condensers over the past couple of days. I wanted to see what everyone's thought on a couple of questions I have had: 1) Most designs I've seen online have the steam inlet in the bottom...
