    Recipe for Mojo IPA?

Are you serious? I'm also curious about a Mojo clone. Had one the other day and it was very tasty.

A democratic IPA - Vote to create a recipe

Alright, great start. But hop was singular for a reason! I'm trying to keep it relatively simple. One hop per category! A little harder perhas..

A democratic IPA - Vote to create a recipe

Ok, so maybe this is a silly idea, but since there are so many fun collaborative recipes floating around HBT, I thought we could vote on an IPA, and see if the beer comes out a coherent beer. I'm thinking we'll follow general IPA guidelines, and vote on the following attributes, to see if we...

    Brewing with coffee

I agree, except for the pasteurizing part. Here's what I wrote in a thread yesterday: I don't know if I would pasteurize the coffee, that defeats the whole purpose of cold-brewed coffee. "You don't brew ice coffee by cooling down coffee that has been brewed normally. During the cooling...

    Cappuccino stout

I don't know if I would pasturize the coffee, that defeats the whole purpose of cold-brewed coffee. "You don't brew ice coffee by cooling down coffee that has been brewed normally. During the cooling process there would be excessive loss of volatiles during the cooling process, unless you can...

    Oak in IPA

At least in the wine world, french oak is thought to be a little more mineraly, whereas American oak is more vanilla and overwhelming. French oak might be good, but American oak might impart a vanilla that could seem out of place in an IPA.

    Port Brewing Hop 15

I just had a bottle of the real thing last week, and perhaps it was a mistake tasting it blind with PtE (I'd never had Hop 15 or PtE before) but man, it was just awful. A syrupy hoppy mess with no redeeming qualities. Hope you get something better out of this brew. I usually love hop bombs, but...

What am I tasting in Belgian beers?

I think I'm on the same page as you. Nasty.

How to add coffee to stout?

Cold brewing is by far the best way to go. It pulls out of some the oils, and when you cool boiled coffee from hot to cold it can take on a nasty, acrid flavor. There's a reason cold coffee left sit out can taste so bad.

What am I tasting in Belgian beers?

In most Belgian beers there's a fruity pruney taste that I really don't like-Is it coming from the yeast? I sort of assumed it is, but could it be coming from the malts? Thanks

    Beer scene in Santa Cruz?

Hey John, thanks for all the info. I'm studying Politics, although who knows if that's actually a good idea. I'm totally stoked about having the resources to get into mountain biking! I'm from MN and then NYC so I've never had much mountain biking except through-the-woods single track that...

    Beer scene in Santa Cruz?

Hey guys, thanks for all the tips and welcomes! On none-beer related notes, how is the housing market? I'm used to NYC prices, but looking at craigslist, apartments are expensive... Also, am I going to need a car? I really don't want one, but if my girlfriend works in San Francisco or something...

    Beer scene in Santa Cruz?

So I got into UC Santa Cruz for my phd, and I'm thinking about moving out there from NYC. Obviously the California beer scene is one of the best in the world, but it seems to me that Santa Cruz might be missing out on some of this? I hope I'm wrong! I'm coming out visit in a month before I...

Black Chocolate Stout - Heaven in a glass

FWIW, there's still a ton floating around NYC still. I had a bottle last night, and I think it was infected. Sour and disgusting.

    Saranac blows

The only thing worse than Sarnac is Abita. Well, maybe not. They're both pretty damn bad.

    SMaSH IPA?

Have you had something like Green Flash West Coast IPA? That's sort of what comes to mind to me.

3 Batches for $50 including shipping???

+1 I had a Rogue Rye IPA they were talking up breathlessly at a tasting. Tasted like an IPA.

    Black Boss is dangerously drinkable...

Delicious, cheap (1.25 for a half liter in Greenpoint, NYC), and 10% VERY well hidden... Anyone cloned it? Almost pointless, it's so cheap, but it'd be fun to try to to improve it some.

    Anyone ever made Quinoa beer?

Quinoa is quite possibly the food that could save billions from starvation being very protein rich and vitamin rich, but I am not sure it'd add much to beer. Maybe a bit of nutty flavor? I love quinoa.

First Try @ a Recipe: High Gravity ESB - Comments?

Not necessarily fail, it's definitely darker than most IPAs, and it'll probably be pretty tasty. That hop schedule though looks like an American IPA schedule. You might be better served by using different hops that might not give as much floral/citrus. I don't really know what those hops would...
