    confused about temperature sensors

The hole was already in this kettle, and if it wasn't I probably would have just put the temperature sensor on the outlet. Most of the time I will be using a cooler as a mash tun, but if I did want to do a recirculating mash in the kettle I'm thinking that long sensor is going to be in the way.

    confused about temperature sensors

Thanks again for the feedback. I did end up going with the Auber. Although I wish they had a shorter probe, I think I was able to make it work fine through the kettle wall. Outside and inside views:

    confused about temperature sensors

Thanks again everyone for the input. Decided to go with the Auber 1/4 NPT - I'll work up a weldless option first, but get that bung in case I decide to have someone tack it on for me down the road.

    confused about temperature sensors

Thanks BrunDog - I know where you're coming from. Partly I'm asking because I'm just trying to understand this better. I might be able to avoid the weld with something like this https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/mwl14lock.htm

    confused about temperature sensors

Thanks for all the responses so far. So does anyone know of a compatible sensor that is designed for a weldless install in a kettle? This seems like a good option http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/custom-temperature-probes

    confused about temperature sensors

There seem to be a number of different types of temperature sensors and I'm wondering if someone can help me understand the differences, and in particular what would be compatible with an Auber controller. I'm designing something around the Auber DSPR110...

Huston, we have a problem: looks like I'm brewing a barleywine

Obviously it's not going to be very much like an oktoberfest - but it won't be much like a barleywine either, with such a small amount of hops. It is going to be balanced sweet and malty - more in the direction of a dopplebock - but even for malty styles with little bitterness this is going to...

    Help with Mash Recirculation

joking aside, it does limit the amount of grain you can use, and I decided too many of the styles I enjoy wouldn't be practical with it.

    Help with Mash Recirculation

I inserted a piece of copper tubing down to the false bottom to see if it would allow any trapped air to escape (instead of a channel for wort to get down). I'll need to keep playing with that before coming to any conclusions.

    Help with Mash Recirculation

A good discussion is the best way to figure this stuff out. To be clear, reducing the flow to a trickle helps in the sense that you are less likely to pull air into the pump. But the problem doesn't go away. When this occurred, the first indication that something was wrong was the sound...

    Help with Mash Recirculation

I think it might be helpful to clear up what is NOT happening. The BB when used with a bag (non COFI) does have a false bottom to keep the bag away from the outlet. This is not occurring because the bag is plugging the outlet. It is not a stuck mash. Wort is still flowing through the...

    Help with Mash Recirculation

yeah, this just happened to me yesterday. I had a large amount of grain (21 lbs) and assumed it was due to all that weight pressing the bag to the sides of the kettle. I've only got three or four batches on this system so far, but this was the first time it happened. I have the 15g brew boss...

    Brew Boss Systems

The software automatically throttles back the power during the boil. Crank it back up and you can match what you're used to. On full power my brewboss produces way more of a boil than I had ever seen on a propane burner.

First BIAB: beer out of the primary tastes bitter/sour/astringent

Do you adjust for different malts / styles or for different water:grain ratios depending on how big a beer you're brewing?

First BIAB: beer out of the primary tastes bitter/sour/astringent

if it makes you feel any better, after many years of successful brewing, I recently changed equipment and suddenly I have a similar issue to what you're describing. I recently got an ebiab system. My main reason for doing so was to switch to electric - biab was just a side effect but I wanted...

Anyone need some Brew Boss configuration spreadsheets?

I had the same experience, it is frustrating to edit on the tablet. I've tried hooking mine up as a usb device but it isn't recognized. I hope it is as simple as finding the right driver. I'll poke around some more myself and see what I can find out.

Anyone need some Brew Boss configuration spreadsheets?

thank, I am aware you don't need the tablet and can emulate it from a laptop. My question is, are the profiles in a file format that is easy to edit outside of the bboss software? (for example, are they simple text files)

Anyone need some Brew Boss configuration spreadsheets?

Does anyone know whether you can edit the profiles without using the bboss software? I haven't been able to get the tablet that came with bboss to talk to my pc yet. It isn't recognized out of the box. I haven't checked for a driver update but hoping that would be a simple fix. When and...
