    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing 5 gal. of Caribou Slobber today. Figured it's time for a fall brew to get going.

    looking for good reading material

Tasting Beer -Randy Mosher I'm a huge fan of this book. It helped me to really get into the craft/homebrew scene.

Are all non-twist bottles safe for bottling?

Mine are made up mostly of Bells and Schlafly. These have worked great. I also have a few O'Dells. O'Dells has the coolest looking bottles of all.

    Lawnmower/Summer Brew

I'm no doctor, but 1.05 seems pretty close to what the OG would have been. I feel like it needs more time. I'd be worried about bombs. Any senior members want to chime in on this?

What I did for beer today

De-labeled and cleaned waaaaay too many bottles. I let the bin get way too full.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Made the extract version today. First time boiling outside with propane. So much better than electric stovetop.

    Summer Cucumber Brew

All you can really do now is let it condition and hope the pickle flavor fades. I dont detect a pickle taste in mine, but nice fresh cucumber.

    Summer Cucumber Brew

The esters have toned down a whole lot. They are barely noticeable at all in the both the aroma and the taste. I popped one yesterday, and it has become so good.

What's this sound like to you?

Maybe I've just had terrible examples of the style. Cathedral Square in St. Louis makes an Agave Ale that is awful. It tastes like an old Busch IMO. I'll have to give it another chance.

What's this sound like to you?

Not sure what style I would put that in. I have tried beers with agave nectar, and I'm not a big fan of this ingredient. Do you feel it contributed anything to your brew?

    Summer Cucumber Brew

I popped one open tonight, and it is carbed up pretty well (you can find my recipe on page 8). The cucumber on the nose has faded considerably. Nothing really stands out as far as aroma. There is a slight ester/grain smell. This beer is a nice orange hue, and turned out fairly clear. This...

    Summer Cucumber Brew

Bottled mine on Sunday, exact recipe is: 2lb Light DME 3.3 lb Wheat LME 8 oz. Honey (30 min. mark) 1 Oz. Cascade Unmeasured amount of coriander (very little) Nottingham Dry Yeast 1 week in primary, 1 week in secondary on 2.5 lb of cukes. I couldn't help myself, and I popped one open this...

    Auto-siphon vs. Mouth

I don't use either. Starting a siphon is extremely simple.

    8th batch

I've very interested to see how this one turns out. Sounds like this could be great.

Its really not that hard...(for newbies like me)

+1 to this. I bottled my 2nd brew today. My first is a Brewer's Best APA kit, the second is a modified Cucumber Summer Brew recipe that I found here on this forum. Looking to jump to Partial Mash then All Grain by the year's end. The APA is the only one that is ready to drink thus far, but it is...

    Summer Cucumber Brew

Bottled this today after a week on cucumbers. That makes one week in primary, one week on cucumbers in secondary. In sampling this today, it has a mega amount of esters. I'm hoping this clears up a little bit. The cucumbers are still present on the nose mostly. I'm not sure why the esters are so...

    What are you drinking now?

I'm having some of the APA I made for my first home brew ever, along with some Bell's Oberon.

The Cannman Diary: A Beginner's Journey In Home Brewing

I have also heard of the hour boil of water followed by dumping that water. I have not yet heard anyone who has given a good answer as to how to clean an aluminum kettle so as to maintain that layer in the kettle. I am eyeing larger aluminum kettles for my next purchase, simply because of cost.

    Summer Cucumber Brew

I went with 2.5 pounds of cucumbers. Also, I steeped the carapils along with honey malt from cool til boil.
