If this is the first time recirculating on your system and you didn't run AT with recirculation prior to today's brew, then yes. Gotcha I was actually looking through my manual and was about to suggest this, lol If this is the first time recirculating on your system, then you would need to run auto tune again which would explain the runaway temps.

Did you run the PID's auto tune function on your system prior to today's brew?

Thanks for the response Jay. I don't doubt the effectiveness of a RIMS. I just couldn't wrap my head around the temp probe location and temp accuracy. I guess I'll just have to finish my RIMS and find out for myself :)

I would recommend going to Lowes or Home Depot and picking up a spool or two of the Lincoln brand flux core wire. It will leave less slag behind, compared to Harbor Freight wire.
