    CO2 Tank Spontaneously Discharges

I got my nearly new Kegco 10lb CO2 tank filled yesterday. Got it home, checked the weight on the scale to make sure it was about 10lbs heavier than the empty weight and it was. Then I left it standing on a flat hard surface (tile floor). A bit later than that, I left the house - was gone for...

    Noob: confused rehydrating dry yeast

I've used the dry yeast packets several times with Brewers Best and Coopers kits and never bothered with rehydrating. Just pitched them dry. I've never had any problems with fermentation. Unless you have a beer with a relatively high OG, I don't know that it's necessary.

I really appreciate you taking a shot at this. I'll give it a go and see how it turns out. Cheers :mug:

    Solving a Beer Puzzle

My kettle is probably 7 gal or so. It's an aluminum Bayou Classic turkey fryer kettle. Never mashed before... could be interesting. Yooper - thanks for taking a look!

    Solving a Beer Puzzle

In my travels, I found a brewpub in Boston called Boston Beer Works. One evening this past week, I ordered up their Bambino Pale Ale and liked it… a lot! I went back the next day at lunch to talk to the brew master. Gave him my compliments, identified myself as a newly-obsessed home...

    Help Picking a Kegerator

Congrats on making the jump to kegging. One very minor additional investment you might consider is making sure your beer lines are 10 ft. I replaced the standard 5 ft. ones that mine came with and it made a big difference. The line itself is no more than a dollar/foot.

    Coopers real ale

As far as when to bottle, do exactly what Yooper says (and that's pretty good advice for most things). The rule of thumb on the dextrose is 1oz per gallon of beer. Add that amount of dextrose to about 2.5 cups of water, boil it for a few minutes, let it cool a bit and add it to your...

    Any Big Green Eggers Here?

For the filets, I'll marinate them for a bit in about a 50:50 mixture of worcestershire and italian dressing.. also throwing in some Dizzy Pig Raising the Steaks seasoning. I get the Egg up to lava temps, do a sear and pull them off. I cover them with foil and close the vents on the Egg down...

Technique During the Boil on Extract Brews

The reason I've been trying to minimize the evaporation is that I start (and try to stay with) a single 5 gal container of bottled water. And I'm curious, what sort of nasty stuff could be dripping back in other than water vapor? Thanks!

    Coopers real ale

That sounds like an acceptable FG, but it might not be a bad idea to give it a few more days and check the gravity again to see if it's still chugging away. Certainly won't hurt anything. Are you getting any bubble activity at all in your air lock? It just so happens that I have a Coopers...

Technique During the Boil on Extract Brews

I'm really interested to learn how closely others tend their kettle and how much fooling around with it they do during the boil on extract brews. I ask this because I typically find myelf overing over the kettle like a mother hen. I try to keep it partially covered with lid to minimize...

    Changing beer lines question

Having the right tool is half the battle. From recent exprience I can attest that it's worth the effort to install the longer lines. Cheers :mug:

How old were you when you began this journey?

I brewed my first batch this past year. I'm 55, however I can read at the level of a 56 year old, so I've got that going for me...

    Any Big Green Eggers Here?

Ribs are one of my favorite things to do on the Egg. I do the "Carwash Mike" method.. love it. The local Sam's store here sells USDA Prime filets. I've got a technique down for them that I wouldn't trade for any steak at Morton's or Ruth's Chris. I tried tackling pizza - was not a success...

    Length Matters...

I should probably just leave well enough alone, but oh well... Blarney, I can't quite understand how a thread on beer line length would not belong under that category of "Bottling and Kegging." Now if my observation/validation on the positive effect of increased line length and the quality of...

    Length Matters...

I had the 5' 3/16" lines and that's what I was having some problems with. I went to 10' 3/16" and that's when I noticed the improvement. Definitely better carbonation. Might have I been imagining that the flavor was better as too? Perhaps, but it seemed to me like without the additional...
