    HERMS System Questions

Have a look at the link below. It is a guide to brewing with HERMS. The bottom link not the top one. Cheers hope it helps.

    ball or pin lock kegs

In my opinion ball lock is better supported with parts and so forth. I would pick ball lock again as that is what I use.

    Kegerator foaming/carbonation question

Yes. Third that your lines are way too short. You need to have at least 9 to 10 PSI of pressure loss in your lines keg to tap. Else foam will be your new friend. The beersmith site has a good blog on pressure loss in lines and balance in the keg system.... I do not know the link but google...

    Fisrt brew question

I would need to see the recipe to give you a good or bad call. I see you were using a kit do you have a link to it I can read? It is hard to give input without knowing the specifics of the recipe.

    Fisrt brew question

If you search on here a bit there are some good threads on what pressure to keep for how long during a cold crash. I do not recall the exact data but people have done some pretty high pressures for a couple days and claim to come out 80% or 90% carbonated. You may take a look at that as...

    Fisrt brew question

You can cold crash with the keg on CO2 no big deal. I have done it. Just make sure that you re calculate your CO2 setting pressure for the correct carb volume you want. As you get colder the beer will absorb CO2 better, so if you leave you regulator at the same pressure you have it for non...

I second the StarSan change. That was one of the best things I ever did, you will be happy.

    Fisrt brew question

I cold crash for at least a day but have for 1 week plus when the process gets interrupted by travel. My personal thought is at least 48 hours is best. I do 35 F. How is this going now?

    Fisrt brew question

You are on the correct path. For me I do a combo of all these processes. First I ferment out, then cold crash in the fermenter to low 30s F, rack to keg, add a gelatin treatment for any non dark beer, do a co2 bleed for 30 seconds, pressurize and wait, or jack up the pressure and wait less...

    Chiller with reusable water supply

Not 100% true. Do some research, and second the term anti freeze is a wide sweeping term. There are some that are non toxic, but always read up on the exact chemical you are using. Further pay close attention to not only human side effects, but also any pets you may have.

    Chiller with reusable water supply

ahh... one thing I forgot to say. I use that freezer for fermentation also. So the only time it is freezing is the day before the brew, then the brine comes out and the fermenters go in. Then the temp is controlled at ferm temp. Then the cycle repeats.

    Chiller with reusable water supply

I brew in a location with no running water. A day before brew day I fill a 77L or 20.3 gallon trash can with my salt brine solution. This trash can is in the freezer, over night I take it to about 10 F or so. This can cool a 11 gallon batch well. After flame out I whirlpool while I pump the...

    korny keg lost pressure

Beer will be fine. Plenty of CO2 on it. Find leak, buy refill, restart.

Have had it happen once. Was not an issue. Happened about the same time in the process.

My first all-grain batch of beer.

Hahahhaha... What I think.... you did a good job for your first go. A very good job. If you keep your fermentation temps going well and carbonate correctly you will have good beer. What I predict, you will have lots more all grain equipment shortly.... credit card beware! cheers
