    Is patience really a virtue?

I love this forum for a lot of reasons. Brewing beer gives me time to prepare for the current batch, the next batch and future batches. Upon reading enough of the 3-3 or 2-1-2 or 4-2 OMG my head was going to explode. Primary no secondary...secondary to free up space....forget that- rack...

    Help determine my FG

Brewing this as my first- very excited I wish we had a "homebrew law of secondary fermentation" I have to dry hop too. Also dont want to run into grassy flavors and bad hoppification. If I dont fill up the 5 gallon with Apfelwein, than I might try secondary for a week of conditioning...

    Anxious much?

I guess most of us are in the same boat when it comes to patience. I have lost all of mine. I am day 5 in my brew experience- and I am bursting at the seams right now. I do have something worth a mention... I know its hard to tell whats good and bad and most just need patience- and...

Questions about ambient temp, fermentor temp and swamp cooler

I also only fill my swamp cooler part way. Only 1/2 of my beer is exposed to water- and the fermometer is way above that not in water- and my temperature has been a solid 60F for 5 days. One day it was really hot and moved to 62F - thought I was going to have a breakdown. Temps got...

    Swamp cooler too cool?

Id like to fall on the 2-3 week guy thing myself because of my insane impatience.... I bet I could drop that water temperature down even further on my next batch and experiment. I noticed the water stayed ~58 when I had a 2 liter in. I have since stated using only single bottles. Whats...

    re-adding hydrometer test beer

Good idea? Bad idea? I would assume in a clean star san hydrometer setup- you should be able to thief some beer into the setup- and dump it back in as to not waste all that nice beer. Is there too much risk for airborne bacteria or anything else not good about this practice?

    Swamp cooler too cool?

thanks for the feedback. Since its really my first batch, I am nervous. Spent hours and hours sanitizing and going nuts about reading every damn thing that there is. From the looks of things- its just kicking major butt right now and the aroma is very nice when you smell the airlock- and...

    Swamp cooler too cool?

In brewing my first ale and I have a nice insulated laundry rope basket doing the job really well. I have a room temp of about 80ish-f but my swamp cooler "water" is steady at 60f. The fermometer when the primary is in the water is around 62 I want to say. Im scared that its too close to the...

    Pouring wort to bucket fermenter

after the wort is chilled, you should pour the wort into your primary- and try to leave as much sludge behind. Is that technically called trub yet? I dont think so but you get the point. Whatever gets in will get in- and when you go from primary to bottle bucket assuming you do, you wont...

Hello Everyone I am brewing my first batch since about 20 years ago. I made only one batch back then but nonetheless, I am back. :D I am brewing an IPA that asks for 60-72f temperature during fermentation. I am looking at getting a swamp cooler going with a large laundry basket- but...
