    First All Grain/BIAB

Your experience sounds almost exactly like my first two BIAB attempts in the last two weeks. Strike temp was too high, then the mash dropped too low, and then bringing it back up I ended up overshooting it again. The mashout was easy enough and the boil was the same as always. But I'll be...

First AG batch, could use some suggestions

I'm also just getting into AG brewing, but that seems like an awful lot of Crystal Malt to me.

    Hop Aroma in a Keg

Last night I dropped about a 3rd of an ounce of whole leaf cascades into the keg and within an hour it was tasting a smelling much better. Thanks as always for the top notch advice from this forum!

    Really? Maybe I can't taste it either:confused:

I've always thought it was "Tasty crack cans." /shrug

    Hop Aroma in a Keg

That looks awesome! But I think it's a bit more work than I was looking to put into it tonight. I've known about the hop oils, but I've got some whole leaf cascade hops sitting around already, so I'd rather do that just so I don't have to go and buy more stuff. I'll try dropping a half to...

    Hop Aroma in a Keg

So I've got an IPA that I kegged about a month ago (I don't usually drink slowly, but I've got a Blonde on the other tap that I've been favoring) and I've noticed that now almost all of the hop flavor and aroma that it had when I first kegged it is gone. There's about a third of the keg left...

    New 2 Brewing

Also, I forgot to mention that you can read the 1st edition of How to Brew at howtobrew.com for free. I'd still recommend getting a print copy, but as long as you've got a printer this will get you through your first brewday.

    New 2 Brewing

I started with a MoreBeer kit and Palmer's How to Brew and it's been a great experience. Being active here will also be a lot of help as people will work with you to improve your methods and won't even flame you for asking the same questions that pop up a few times a week!

Which Extract Kit Should I get

You might want to try a dry stout kit since you like Guinness, although I personally haven't brewed one so I don't have any recommendations. http://morebeer.com/view_product/18330/102178/American_Ale_-_Extract_Beer_Kit ^ was my second batch, it had a good amount of hops and malt while still...

    Hop extract

Yeah, I'd have to agree with dancness, if you want a big hop hit, why not use more hops?

    BIAB Beginner Question

After looking at prices on Amazon, I think I might just grab a steamer rack. They're dirt cheap and it gives me an excuse to order more books :)

Anyone else wake up in the middle of the night and think about brewing?

I haven't been woken up in the middle of the night yet, but I've recently taken to leafing through recipe books as my before bed reading so I've had a few dreams about brewing. Part of me wants to write down the recipe as soon as I wake up, but I'm pretty sure it would just be rubbish :p

    BIAB Beginner Question

Awesome, it's good to know I had the right idea, even if I didn't know the reason why. Thank you both! :mug:

    BIAB Beginner Question

I was planning on trying my hand at AG in a few weeks using the BIAB method. One of the recipes I was thinking of is from the Jamil/Palmer book "Brewing Classic Styles" and it states in the intro (or somewhere, I'm at work so I don't have it in front of me) that a mash out isn't necessary, but...

    Sanitize before putting equpment away?

I'm not going to assume there's nothing to be gained from it, but it certainly shouldn't be necessary. If you sanitize them and then stick them into an unsanitized environment then you haven't accomplished much. As for what could be causing the taste, I'll leave that to the wiser forum members...

    Low OG

A bit of a zombie thread, but I brewed a Belgian Golden ale this weekend with the lid off for the boil and I was dead on for the estimated OG. Thanks all!
