    Sweet, thanks dude

How do I know how much priming sugar to use?

Hi there, I have some beer sitting in primary which I will bottle tomorrow (it will have been in there for three weeks and FG has been the same for the last few days). Having searched and looked at a few threads and how-tos, I know that I should be using 8g of priming sugar per litre of...

    Lake Walk Pale Ale

Cool, I'm probably gonna bottle this weekend regardless and just hope for the best. I want to get another batch on the go asap!

    Lake Walk Pale Ale

Alrighty, just checked the gravity of this to see what's happening - I plan to bottle this weekend so it will have been in primary for 3 weeks. The hydrometer sample I took was very cloudy - the beer looks clear if I look in to the FV from the top but this FV has a tap from which I drew the...

    Sanitizing bottles?

Any suggestions for those who don't use star san? I use something called VWP which needs to be rinsed, any quick & easy way of sterilising with this? Would I even need it if I have a dishwasher? Cheers, Dan

Black Pale Ale or whatever they're called...

Nope, didn't understand any of that either :) Thanks for the link though - I am capable of clicking on that and following instructions! Done! Looking forward to brewing this in a couple of weeks.

Black Pale Ale or whatever they're called...

Good man! Thanks for the suggestions, I did download Brewtarget but it wouldn't work (I didn't know I needed a Qt environment. I don't know what a Qt environment is!) Will check out Beer Alchemy as well. So, thoughts on the updated hop schedule above? This should give 48 IBUs - do I need...

Black Pale Ale or whatever they're called...

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm using Beer Calculus as I haven't bought any brewing software yet (any advice on something for Mac?) and the IBUs came out to those listed below using Tinseth. Anyway I have changed the values slightly, grain bill will remain the same but hop schedule now looks...

Black Pale Ale or whatever they're called...

I want to brew a black pale ale (for want of a better term, I know it's ridiculous but not as ridiculous as Cascadian Dark Ale). This recipe is what I came up with. The only other malt I have is wheat malt, I have simcoe and amarillo hops but that is it and I don't want to have to buy anything...

Looks like Spirited Away. Has to be one of my favourite films so just thought I'd jump in there!

    Beer snobbing

I had the last pint out of a cask the other day, I got about a third of the way through and was thinking about taking it back (it was ok but not the greatest pint) when the landlady put a fresh pint on the table and took the other one away. I was very pleased :-) I have complained about beers...

    Lake Walk Pale Ale

Well, brew day was yesterday and it went reasonably smoothly. I thought I had managed to calculate everything correctly and well in advance but from my very limited experience of brewing, nothing ever seems to work out quite how you thought it would. I overshot my mash temp a little bit...

    Lake Walk Pale Ale

...and as if by magic, since I amended the erroneous 60 minute addition to 20 minutes in line with the recipe, the IBUs are now spot on according to Beer Calculus. I'm sure you are all dying to know how this turns out so I will keep you updated after brew day (or post any additional questions...

    Lake Walk Pale Ale

    LOL... I'm trying not to!

    Lake Walk Pale Ale

I'm trying NOT to alter it!! But the values I plugged in originally gave me way too many IBUs. I didn't change the schedule from my first post, I accidentally typed it as having all the additions at 60 minutes but the 2nd additions in the recipe should have been at 5 minutes. Basically to get...

    Lake Walk Pale Ale

Oops, thanks for pointing that out - I've edited my post to show the correct timings for the 2nd lot of hops (5 minutes). Will drop down to 70% for the efficiency and bump up the grain bill accordingly, shouldn't be too far off I guess. Thanks for your comments.

    Lake Walk Pale Ale

Hi all, I will be brewing the Lake Walk Pale Ale per the recipe in this thread... https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f66/lake-walk-pale-ale-32939/ This is only my second brew and I had a few queries: I'm using the free Hopville Beer Calculus recipe calculator to plug the numbers into. However I...

    Beer in London

I would recommend: 'Cask' in Pimlico, not too far from South Ken - LOTS of taps and a massive beer menu, lots of imported bottles from Belgium (and the US but probably at about 10 times the cost you guys over there get it for!) 'Drafthouse' nr Clapham Junction - there are three of these...

    Infected beer?

The fermenter was sanitized using VWP Cleaner & Sterilizer, dulited per package instructions - the fermenter was filled about a third full, then sloshed around and wiped with a new cloth, then rinsed in tap water. We didn't use any racking gear, just poured the wort into the fermenter. However I...

    Infected beer?

OK, just before the boil was turned off (it's a 5 gallon SS pot we're using on a stove top - just doing 3 gal batches) the immersion chiller was removed from the sanitizing solution and rinsed with boiling water from a kettle. The chiller was put in the wort and a sparging bag placed over the...
