    Single Hop Pale Ale Advice

Trying to make a simple pale ale that is slightly on the hoppy side. Also, the LHBS only sells hops in 2 oz packages, so I'd really like to use only 2 oz of one type of hops. Below is what I planned on brewing. Some feedback would be greatly appreciated, especially any advice you can give on...

    Yeast murder

I'm not 100% sure. I thought I read somewhere 10 degrees in a day was a good rule of thumb. But I have done the same thing as you, let my fermenter get up to about 86, and then panic and cool it to 70 in a couple hours using icewater. I still reached my FG dead on and still made great beer...

    Yeast murder

Don't cool it back down too quickly either, or you'll pi$$ off your yeasties and they'll go on strike.

Very little head on AG wheat.

Thanks! I tried this, shook it up to speed things along (I was thirsty). And first pint had a big frothy head on it!! The beer tastes better too, more like a wheat. I guess I just didn't notice it because I am fairly new to wheats.

Ice Mountain Water Jugs = Better Bottles?

Getting water at work today, just happened to glance at one of the 15 bottles sitting next to the dispenser........PETE! Asked the boss if I could take home 4 empties, he said Sure!! (I dont think he knows hes paying a deposit on them) I need to get as many as possible before I move in a...

Very little head on AG wheat.

My first all-grain brew is an AHS American Wheat AG kit. I did a single step mash at around 154 and from there on business as usual. Its been in the keg now for about a week at 40^F and 15 psi. It looks, tastes, and feels carbonated adequately for a wheat beer. My big problem is that I...

    American Wheat ROUGH ideas

I agree, the wheat needs to come through more, I think changing the contrast on the background layer, (wheat only not sky) may help it come through the colors of the flag. It also needs a lot of cleaning up around the edges and some accents added. Thanks for the feedback!

    American Wheat ROUGH ideas

I overlaid the flag on the wheat field to try to play on the 'American' wheat. But I realize it may be a little hard to distinguish the wheat beneath the flag. As far as using the flag for advertising, I think I'll be OK putting this label on 4 dozen bottles and keeping them in my fridge. I...

    American Wheat ROUGH ideas

I'm trying to come up with an American Wheat label. I'm not an artistic person, more of a numbers guy. (probably why I'm an engineer and not an architect) But here is my extremely rough start I put together in about 5 minutes. I was thinking of the "Amber waves of grain" in America the...

    Raffle Oatmeal Stout

Looks delicious, probably will be my next brew. Mind throwing out some hop substitution suggestions? I like to get everything from AHS, and they're currently sold out. How about EKG or willamette?

    Oatmeal Stout (AG) recipe Critique

Right. The site that I saw that on was beersmith. http://www.beersmith.com/blog/2008/03/14/brewing-an-irish-stout-beer-recipe/ I know an irish stout is different from an oatmeal stout. But as you said, 1:1 I think is too hoppy for ANY stout.

    Priming Bulb as Siphon Starter

Update: If you use this method DONT leave the priming bulb on the hose while racking. I did that while racking to secondary and now my whole batch has a rubbery taste to it, i mean a VERY rubbery taste. From now on I will start the siphon with the bulb and then take it off while siphoning...

    Oatmeal Stout (AG) recipe Critique

I went back and forth with the 60L and 120L, after reading your comment, I think I will go with the 60. Also, the reason I had so much hops was reading some others advice about a 1:1 IBU/gravity ratio. Now, I didn't come anywhere near that because that seems WAY too hoppy for me, but I was...

    Oatmeal Stout (AG) recipe Critique

Hey everyone. I'm going for an Oatmeal stout with a lot of body and maltiness. I'd also like to have hints of chocolate and coffee, without messing with actual chocolate or coffee. Below is my first shot at the recipe, please let me know what you think. Type: All-Grain Date: 4/3/2008...

Igloo 48 qt MLT for $40

I just realized you're probably talking about the flexible tubing..... It stays put really well, doesn't try to lift the manifold at all. I thought about putting hose clamps around it, but the 3/4" tubing makes a nice tight fit around those 1/2" fittings.

Igloo 48 qt MLT for $40

Well its only 1/2" CPVC, and with all the slits cut into it, its pretty flexible. The bend may look a little worse in those pictures then it actually is, and I think when I plop 12 lbs of grain on top, any bend that it does have will come out.

Igloo 48 qt MLT for $40

I just plugged the pieces together. I want to be able to disassemble it for easy cleaning. And the pieces fit so tightly as it is, I'm not concerned with them coming apart on their own. Also, I'm not worried about any leaks at the joints, because the purpose of the manifold is to take in...

    MLT PVC Manifold question

I had the same problem. Check out my solution in this thread The flow of the liquid will act as a siphon, so no need to worry about the height of the hole in the cooler, as long as your manifold is sitting flat on the bottom. When I tested mine with water, I only had about 8 oz left in the...
