how do I get nice blue SS welds, not oxidized ?

Also, there are few ways to control heat input I figure I will mention. Heat input is not always the problem of too much amps, it can also be from traveling to slow as well. It's normally better to use a higher amps and faster travel speed to achieve a weld with less heat. You can also use...

how do I get nice blue SS welds, not oxidized ?

Grey means too much heat input. If your welding thin SS, make sure your purge the backside of weld with argon, or use solar flux B to prevent sugaring of the weld. Using a gas lens and as big of a cup as you can get, and small diameter tungsten also really helps with thin stuff. I like to use...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Brewed 10 gallons of this just kegged one and its really good. I ended up splitting the batches and pitching notty in one and us05 in the other...I just kegged the us05 and its amazing. I ended up with 1.046 OG and 1.012 FG for 4.5% and the hops still come through just fine. One of my buddies...

Any 1028 London Ale Yeast IPA Recipes?

Hop stoopid uses London ale, and it's my favorite dipa by far. I did the hop stoopid clone and it was the best brew I've ever made. Search for the hop stoopid clone on here.

How to avoid paying a tow truck driver

Here's a good story, once I parked at my buddies apt that had special parking that required a guest placard to be displayed to park there and I was real good about displaying it when I did park there. Well one night I forgot to put it on the dash and it never even crossed my mind. Then the...

Unveiling my brewery & garage build

You could always polish the concrete to help with clean up and it will resist sparks and slag much better than epoxy. Just an idea, I myself was thinking about this method as well being I weld in the garage allot too. http://www.ehow.com/how_7628284_polish-concrete-garage-floors.html

Proper positioning on pipe fittings for pump

I think you need a back up wrench, like another pipe wrench or channell locks etc. tighten the tee till its where you want it, then hold the tee still with your other pipe wrench or channell locks and tighten your valve.

Just got the new "Cereal Killer" Grain Mill

I have crushed two batches so far, yesterday did a ipa BIAB that was supposed to have a 1.059 OG ended up hitting 1.070 with the gap set at .040" (verified with a millwright .040 stainless shim). I really like it so far it's pretty damn nice for the price.

BIAB Stand - Electric Winch with Pump

I've been thinking about building some BIAB stands and selling them. Ive really liked some of the ideas I've seen on here. Seems like a BIAB stand is a great compromise for space and time. My first all grains I did were biab's and they turned out amazing. I've been doing three tier gas fired...

Is a 7.9 Gal Primary too BIG?

I probably use the same ones as you (brewcraft) I actually bought them up in Oregon in Medford. Best carboy ever, 8 gallons with a spigot for taking gravity reading without opening the lid. No worries about blowing the lid, and you can still use a blowoff if your heart desires with some 3/8...

    Stick vs MIG welder

Craigslist is your friend for picking up used welders. I have never bought a new welder but I bought my first home machine (a miller Dialarc 250) for $50. My latest beast (a 2009 miller syncrowave 250dx tig practically brand new) is around $5500 fully decked out and I picked it up for $3200...

Can I do a whole fermentation in my 6 gallon can boy?

Agreed, I have never done a secondary. I do mostly hoppy beers (pa's, IPA's, IIPA's) and I even dry hop in my primary, beer turns out great. Seems like transferring to a secondary is just asking for trouble IMO...tranferring to my keg is the only oxidizing I wanna do, lol.

    wide mouth carboys?

I just don't see what the big deal in using plain old plastic bucket fermenters...I only have one 5 gallon glass carbon and that always is the last to get used if all my buckets are tied up. I use 30L brewcraft fermenters and the extra head space is nice for violent fermentation. Plus you have a...

    B3 Sculpture: Gas question

I have those burners on my B3 replica, they really kick ass. You have to dial in the air vents but as soon as you get that figured out its great. You could always use a needle valve in place of a ball valve to throttle flow better for HP propane (thats the way Im going to be doing it without a...

    Sterile Welding Ball Valve

When you get your fittings welded on just purge the rear of the weld, or you can do what I do instead of wasting argon to fill the kettle and welding it out of position. I use solar flux B on the back side of the weld after I put a small tack to hold it in place. I welded the first one without...

Building a morebeer tippy dump replica

I made them 10" long out of 1x2 .065 tube, but they could have been a touch shorter. But it was nice it perfectly used a 20' stick for two sculptures. I welded the shrouds to the supports.

    Not-So-Obnoxious Baseball Thread

Big win for the giants against a redhot nats team. After the 14-2 beat down last night I was ready to jump. Seems like whenever we play a contending team things start to fall apart. The lineup yesterday was super questionable IMO Scuttero at 3rd after they activated Pablo? Arias at short when...
