I opted not to brew today on my new Setup - Instead I dialed in all my settings

So, this test is a little deceptive for a couple reasons. First, you say you lost 26 degrees, but in reality you will calculate a strike temp that will be high enough to hit your mash temps. You need to consider your MLT temp and your grain temp when making that calculation. Second, you will...

    Refractometer has extremely fuzzy line

It may be a lemon, but I found that when the light was TOO bright, my line was very fuzzy. Try backing it away from the light source a bit and see if that helps. How close can you see it currently? Within 2 lines or so, or WAY off?

Anyone running the Tower of Power?

Email Blichmann. They have phenomenal service and respond very quickly.

Free Starter Kit (Iowa City, Iowa)

Also, the purple Bumbo is a key component to any starter kit. You can't have the little one running around while you're trying to brew.

    Have DF 120 Will Trade

I picked up a fresh bottle of Dogfish Head 120 Minute a week or so back. I'd like to trade it for something that's hard to get out here in NJ. Preferences would be: Pliny Kern Citra Zombie Dust Anyone interested?

Brew stand... giving it a go!

mmurray: genius idea adding the flat bar to the front. I was planning on doing similar spacers on my (in-planning) build, but that's a great addition.

    What Perlick should I get?

Got mine at birdmanbrewing.com - they had the best price when I build my setup. Great service too.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

Been looking everywhere for CaraRye to brew this up. Where did you guys find it?

    What Perlick should I get?

Don't bother with the creamer faucet - visitors get confused and push back on the handle and can't stop the flow. Also, I have more problems with too much foam, rather than not enough. Simply unnecessary. I'd do the 525s if I had to do it over again.

    CO2 Filling

Also look for welding supply shops. The gas place near me fills my 5# tank for just $11. I also get full propane tanks for almost half what Blue Rhino charges.

new keggle ready but cooling system is not

No need. Flush with Oxyclean and rinse. Having a pump is a big plus. I backflush first, then run the Oxy through the other way, just switching QDs. Then a final rinse with water and let it all drain.

Duda Diesel - 30 Plate Chiller

I have used my long 20 plate chiller on 3 brews now, and it is... awesome. It does take me longer than 3 1/3 minutes for a 5 gallon batch, though - your ground temp will dictate how slow you need to flow through the chiller.

Duda Diesel - 30 Plate Chiller

I'd take the short 30 plate over the Shirron all day. I would also step up to the longer 20 plate (well, I did at least). My only regret is not doing the long 30 plate, but the 20 works great.

Question to those using camlock fittings

Agree with the other responses. It would be very difficult to attach a hose with a male fitting. Plus, the female could be pretty warm and that would add an extra level of difficulty.

    Wort chiller or plate chiller?

Probably because it uses more material. The longer 20 plate will have more surface area than the short 20.

    Wort chiller or plate chiller?

This. Get a Duda Diesel, by far the best deal IMHO. I ordered one a few months back and it has blown me away with how well it chills. I got the longer 20 plate version and it brings my temps down to virtually ground water temp in about 5 minutes for a 6 gallon batch.

    Well done. Congrats!

Mash temp 10* too high for first few minutes?

You are no better than I am at that! Yesterday, I forgot to configure temps in Beersmith and undershot my mash temp by ~6 degrees. Fixed it with a quart of near boiling water. Then LAST week I was using the timer feature in BS 2.1 and forgot the sequence of alarms, so I did a hop addition...
