    addicted to brewing?

It seems these days I just cannot go a weeend without brewing. I have 3 fermenters at a time going now. Hopefully I'll get over this before too long, but a weekend without brewing just doesn't seem to be a worthwhile weekend any more... :mug:

Uh oh. It smells like vinegar.

I agree as well. I have had odd smells and sights that made me want to dump, but it always paid off to wait. However, when you get a batch where the entire bottle contents violently exit the bottle as foam upon opening, you have a drain-brau... (uh, don't ask why I would know that...)

how long is too long in secondary?

LOL yeah, good point. been sampling a bottled project, so sorry. I have this aapa in a secondary fermenter at about 72 degrees. Do I need to get it out soon at this temp, or is it ok for a while still?

how long is too long in secondary?

I have one in secondary (AAPA) going on 2 weeks, and it's still bubbling every 10-20 seconds or so. I also have a bunch of dry hop hops sitting in there around the neck of the carboy. Do I need to get it out of there soon, or is it ok for another week? Thanks

First AG in the fermenter. holy cow...

wow, re-using yeast sems to be the way to go. I pitched maybe 2 hours ago, and the airlock is going full tilt. I better keep this one cool.

    fermentation stuck???

well, it's started bubbling again in secondary. about 1 glurk every 4 seconds. this is the second time cali V yeast has yielded a real high FG (1.015 on my other mix and match brown).

First AG in the fermenter. holy cow...

Didn't really go the way I wanted. lots of drama/trauma. first off the recipe: (the world's easiest): 9.5 lb two row 1/2 lb Cara pils 1oz cascade hops 1 oz Liberty hops. recycled WL California V yeast from the (minimash + extract) AAPA I racked to secondary last night. ok...

    sparging arm ruined my brew???

i do not have an insulated hot liquor tank, so I just used my bottling bucket with 180 degree water (figured it'd cool off some by the time it reached the mash. well, my mash was onlt 130 degrees by the time I had run out of sparge water... now what??? I am boiling the sweet wort...

First All grain coming up, advice welcome.

tomorrow mornings the day! first AG!!! Well, a phil's sparging rotating wand thinamajib came with my tun, so I supose I ought to use it. am a little nervous on how it is going to turn out. the last few beers I've fermented have had a real high FG. hopefully this one'll get nice and low...

    fermentation stuck???

I have an APA that I just racked to secondary, as the airlock had all but stopped bubbling. It had been on primary for a week. it started out at 1.061, and now is is down to 1.020 and the airlock is practically dead. what's going on? do I need to re-pitch?

First All grain coming up, advice welcome.

Man this is fantastic advice. Had I not started this thread I would have put the grain in the tun first, not had enough sparge water, fouled up the strike temp and worked with not hot enough sparge water. I read a number of books/websites about AG, and they never revealed any of these...

First All grain coming up, advice welcome.

thanks guys. for sparging I have this wand-like contraption that goes on the top of my tun and rotates. It has a base made of PVC pipe, and then what looks like brass tubing with itty bitty tiny holes drilled in it. I was just going to use it, feed water as fast as it'll go (SLOW, the holes...

First All grain coming up, advice welcome.

SO I broke down and bought a 10 gal mash/lauter tun today, plus some grain. I have about 12 (mini-mash + 6or more lbs of ME) brews under my belt, and figured I'd make the leap. Soon (maybe tomorrow or next weekend) I will try to make ale out of the following 9.5 lb two row 1/2 lb Cara...
