How to figure out boil off on first time brew

I usually get about 1.5 gallons of boiloff during my full boils (5 gallon batches). Last brew I did, I started with 5.5 gallons, wound up with 4 gallons :(

My new kit idea starting from the Northern Essential kit..

You don't need a yeast starter if you're using dry yeast (rehydrating for 20-30 min is enough); liquid yeast benefits from a yeast starter And don't forget the star-san and a big ass metal spoon for stirring the boiling wort. Also might wanna think about a fermentation chamber in the future

    Bottle conditioning

Much appreciated :D I've been thinking about moving to kegs, and whether to stick the keg directly in the fridge after primary or let it sit for another month under carbonation. So would this be a good game plan for bigger beers?: - 1st month: primary fermentation - 2nd month: Put beer in...

    Bottle conditioning

Is beer sufficiently matured after a month-long primary fermentation, or does the second month of bottling/leaving at room temp contribute anything to the maturation process (besides carbonation of course)?

I've seen it on a few websites, namely kegglebrewing.com and I'm wondering what the difference is, if any?

    18 brews, but I don't like beer...What next?

Well, try different brews, but in the end, if you don't like beer, then you're an ******* just kidding - if you don't like beer, you don't like beer. Simple as that

Wife got me a MR. Beer Kit. Now what?

First, follow the directions for what you have - see if you even enjoy homebrewing before ordering more. Don't tinker with the recipes, just follow the directions - you don't know enough yet to be tinkering around and still get good beer. Second, a hydrometer is used before you pitch your...

New way to control Pellet Hop gunk!

The guy just got back to me - doesn't use sanitary welds, but it's can be run thru the dishwasher, and for price, a hopper with 6" diameter, 10" long would be $55; not a bad price at all. Really good price, but I'm worried about those welds - will it make any difference that they're not sanitary?

NEW: worlds strongest beer @ 65% abv from scotland

Ugh, why not just drink some cognac or brandy instead This reminds me a lot of the Punisher cigar; for those who don't know, the cigar hobby has fads like every hobby. Right now, large cigars with tons of body/nicotine are the "in" thing, so someone came up with the Punisher - the strongest...

Any Advice for a New Kegger...?

Check out Beverage Element; really good prices on their new kegs ($100 each), and they stock new 5 gallon kegs with the dual rubber handles ($108) like the kind you see on refurbs. Better yet, the poppets are removeable on their new kegs. I've been putting together an order and this is the...

How much do you pay for a CO2 tank? Refill?

Been looking at that site; their price on new kegs is really good, $30 cheaper than Northern Brewer, and they have these new kegs that have rubber handles like the used corney's. Very tempting
