    American Sour Beer – Book!

Good deal. Might I add that the bugs and oak cubes are added after primary calms down. I would call it secondary but I don't usually rack it. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    Consecration kit from MoreBeer

I have a good plan for my next 15 gallon batch. I intend to ferment it with WLP530 and then add the Brett. 8 weeks later I will add the strained (not washed) yeast cake from my first 15 gallon batch. That should add some solid punch to that second and all batches afterwards until I retire the...

    American Sour Beer – Book!

I add my oak cubes when pitching the bugs and don't open the carboy again until bottling or kegging time. Absolute minimal oxygen introduction. That's why I am trying to quantify the average amount of boiled cubes equals a used wine or whiskey barrel. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

Home Super Brewery Build: Hybrid Electric/Gas 3BBL Build

The RV water heater bypass valves are typically only 1/2". 2 larger options to consider: Here is a heavy duty brass option: http://www.pexuniverse.com/taco-562-5-3-way-zone-valve Another manual but better priced option: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006G0B7U0/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    American Sour Beer – Book!

Good catch! Although with that said that would double the amount of cubes necessary to simulate an actual barrel to 46 cubes or 1.2 ounces of dry cubes. Or has my brain fried from being outside all week building a deck roof in 100 degree heat??? I'd still like to know if he is measuring wet...

    American Sour Beer – Book!

Oldsock, What was your reasoning for the 0.15 oz of oak cubes per gallon? Is this 0.15 oz dry or weighed after soaking? Do you assume they are boiled to reduce the oak strength before use? I ask because I had found detailed calculations on another site that come up with 57 square inches...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale The Pious - Westvleteren 12 style quad - multiple

CSI - is your water as devoid of "stuff" as CMUD (Charlotte) water? Mine has the profile of Pilsen. I wonder what in the water would increase attenuation.

I took a look at my 3 five gallon batches today and noticed a few changes. Originally brewed on 4/23/2014 so just over 4 months in. 1. The currants are still floating. Is this normal? I had assumed they would have sunk to the bottom. 2. Something has "woke up" in it - there are...

Home Super Brewery Build: Hybrid Electric/Gas 3BBL Build

Use the pex 3 way valves most rv water heater bypasses have. 2 of them to direct either to the glycol chiller or to a container with a few fish tank heaters in it for those pesky Belgians. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

are you going to jacket the fermenters or route the tubing internally submerged in the wort?

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

just buy a thermal gun (the small $15 ones from amazon) and keep an eye on your garage door surface temp with the open door right above the rig if you have that issue. In winter with it about 30F outside my open garage door reaches 130-140F on the surface. Too much more and I'd cut the fun and...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale The Pious - Westvleteren 12 style quad - multiple

For anyone that is considering brewing CSI's New World version of this beast please go for it! I brewed 15 gallons on 4/23/14. As of today it is at 2 weeks @72F bottle carbonating (mine spent some additional time at 45F as I got sidetracked). Wow! This stuff is absolutely amazing. Smooth...

    Tart of Darkness

Mine will be on oak for a year. My oak prep and amount is key. You must boil new oak cubes for 5-10 minutes which removes a lot of the new oak power (to simulate a used barrel). Hen soak in bourbon for 6 months. Add to ToD at rate of .15 oz by weight per gallon (per American Sours book). I...
