    2014 Hop garden photo thread

Here is my single Cascade plant - 3rd year plant, looking good with sidearms sprouting all over the top. This pic is with the trellis lowered to train the long ends horizontally. And here's a full shot. The trellis line is 15' high, and the longest shoots are another 5' extending to the...

Questions about March Pumps answered by the Factory!

The 809-HS is rated to draw 1.4 amps according to the specs. Is that the maximum or continuous duty? What size fuse would you recommend when the pump is connected through a switch in a control panel? I want to ensure that I size the fuse to accommodate maximum startup draw. Thanks!

    Ranco 11100 on a 30A circuit?

The Ranco will handle 16A full load at 120V and 8A at 240V. The 5500W element draws 23A at 240V, so I don't think the Ranco is a viable option for controlling an element directly.

    30A Control Panel Schematic Feedback

You're right mwill - I should have 10awg feeding the contactors as well. Is there really a difference if the SSR output has two direct lines to the contactors vs. going through a block?

    30A Control Panel Schematic Feedback

OK - thanks again clearwater - FYI, I will only be running one element at a time.

    30A Control Panel Schematic Feedback

Thanks clearwater - I had read that the SSRs can only effectively be protected by ultrafast semi-conductor fuses. Will a regular circuit breaker provide the protection? And great point on the pump startup amps - I'll see if I can get some guidance from March on that.

    30A Control Panel Schematic Feedback

I tried a bunch of different open source tools (I'm on Linux), but settled on Dia. For me, it was the easiest at handling the routing of wiring. And it works on all major operating systems.

    30A Control Panel Schematic Feedback

Hi all, I have been researching all the great contributions from P-J, Kal and other builders in order to come up with a design for my 30A 5500W, single PID system. Here is my schematic. Will my smoke test be smoke free? Thanks! Mike

    Problem motorizing my Maltmill

Yep, if the belt is slipping then you'll likely need to increase the space between the motor and the mill to tighten it up.

Testing an SSR - Can you?

Assuming the LED is 240V, the amount of leakage wouldn't be sufficient to light the bulb, no?

    Rubber feet for control box?

Yeah, I rebuilt some vintage speakers a while back and P-E was a great resource. Designing a new crossover and matching the new drivers was a fun project.
