    2016 Fantasy Football

In! As long as the draft isn't 8/25 or 9/2 (I already have drafts then).

Different Size Batches, Same Ferm Chamber

Hello all, I plan on brewing a porter recipe in two different sizes on the same day. First, I'll brew a 3 gallon batch and then a 5 gallon batch later that day. I am going to experiment with cocoa nibs in the smaller batch. My question is, can I put them both in the same fermentation...

    Improved Mash Efficiency - Thanks!

Certainly makes sense! My efficiency is still around 70% so I don't have that problem :). I think if it started effecting taste then that would be a new factor to consider. Even numbers fools know that efficiency means nothing if you aren't getting the job done.

    Improved Mash Efficiency - Thanks!

I've seen this a lot and I know it's true, but I cannot bring myself to think this way! I'm a software engineer so it irks me to think I could be doing something more efficiently if I could. Someone did a poll on here to try to figure out how many engineering backgrounds are on here and it was...

Taking a Keg on a 10-12 hour drive

My friends and I go to the beach every summer about a 10-12 hour drive away. We have a kegerator and we usually get a commercial keg for the week. Maybe next year, I'd like to brew something to take down there. My question is what would be the best way to do that? After I force carb the...

I never calculate mash/sparge water volumes but I think I should

i'm confused... you mashed with 10 gallons of water? how big was your mash tun to fit that plus the grains? and how did you only end up with 6.5 after draining 10 gallons of water? and then used another 7? I'm still confused exactly how this worked, but if you used 17 gallons and only...

    What are you drinking now?

My attempt at Pliny the Elder. I named it Pliny the Middle Aged because I missed the FG low and it's about 7.25% abv. Still very good!

    Shoulder Surgery

Thanks for sharing your story Sammy :mug: It seems like my high school teammates thought that if they weren't playing in college, then they were too old for baseball after graduating. I say I'm too old when my old ass can't catch up to a fastball or chase down a fly ball anymore! It sounds...

    Shoulder Surgery

I have a torn labrum in my throwing shoulder. I'm 32 and I play baseball in an amateur league in Dayton, Ohio. I'm no superstar, but I contribute and my plan is to play until I am no longer contributing to my team, however long that may be. Currently, I take prescription anti-inflammatory...

British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

I brewed this earlier this year and it's the best beer I've made (out of 10 batches). I'm brewing it again on Friday so it is ready for my fantasy football draft.

Questions while waiting for my first wort to boil

I did one boil on an electric glass stove top. Never again. I immediately went online and got a gas burner. SOOOOO much better and faster.

Struggling to identify off flavour - Need help!

Since it only happens after bottling, I would focus there. Maybe your siphon and/or tube are dirty and need replaced. Or your bottling bucket. How do you wash/rinse and sanitize the bottles? Where do you store the bottles while conditioning and at what temperature? Also, my tap water is so...

    Complete noob

My very first brew was an extract recipe that I attempted on an electric stove. It took FOREVER to heat up even 3 gallons of water (partial boil, I topped it off in the fermenter) and it was not strong enough to bring it to a boil (temp got to 209 and wouldn't budge) unless I put the lid on the...

    Sanke keg foaming issues

Thanks for the replies folks. I'm pretty sure I was wrong (sue me, I was drunk!) about the ID of the beer line. I think it was 1/4" but we couldn't know for sure without cutting the line and we didn't have the tools to do so and reconnect everything. We let it continue to chill overnight and...

    Sanke keg foaming issues

My friends and I get a keg for a week at the beach. We have a kegerator and we always have foam issues. The keg is transported less than a mile to our beach house and put straight into the kegerator. We tap it and set the keg to serving pressure, around 12 psi. We're not sure what else the...
