    contaminated; what now?

This is my 4th batch of extract beer, and the first that has gotten contaminated. I was really suprised to see that this one got contaminated, because I was extra cautious with the cleaning and sanitizing, even more so than I was with my previous batches. Everything looked great in primary...

Is boiling all five gallons neccisary?

sorry, hop times are: Simcoe 60min cluster 15min cascade 5min If I did a 3-4 gallon boil would that bring the IBUs up a noticeble amount?

Is boiling all five gallons neccisary?

Were you calculating that for whole or pellet hops? Those measurements are for pellet hops, so that may be the problem.

Is boiling all five gallons neccisary?

I do have an immersion chiller, although I'm not sure how efficient it will be on a pot that size. It probably wouldn't go very deep into the wort

Is boiling all five gallons neccisary?

Huh, that's weird. According to the directions all of the extract goes in before any of the hops. It's a Brewers Best kit, are there specs usually fairly accurate? 30 to 75 IBUs is HUGE difference that would be pretty bad if they were that far off.

Is boiling all five gallons neccisary?

I have a nice big propane burner, so boiling 5 gallons shouldn't be an issue. I am more concerned about how it will affect the beer. This will be my third batch, and I've used 2-3 gallons boils for all of those and they turned out pretty good, but I'm just wondering if it would be even better...

Is boiling all five gallons neccisary?

I have a LD Carlson "Hop Nog" beer kit that I was planning on brewing this weekend. I was planning on getting a big 9 gallon pot yesterday so I would be able to boil all 5 gallons, but I didn't have time. Right now I have a 5 gallon pot that I can only boil about 2-3 gallons in. I want this...

Apparent stuck fermentation after 36 hours

Thanks for the help guys... Looks like its finished at .02. This is the second batch in a row that has finished at .02 (the first was a BB American nut brown with OG of 1.07) What would cause this? Could it be the yeast? (Both used Windsor ale yeast)

Apparent stuck fermentation after 36 hours

starting gravity was 1.049. Current gravity is 1.021. Theres still no bubbling going on in the airlock, and it looks like the yeast is starting to settle. There is no obvious contamination as far as the smell or taste of it, as far as i can tell. Could it just have finished fermenting in under...

Apparent stuck fermentation after 36 hours

This is my 3rd time brewing, I didnt have any problems during the first two. This time I am brewing a "brewers best" IPA. It is an extract brew with some specialty grains as well. I brewed on thursday night (the 9th) and was seeing lots of action threw the airlock by friday morning. When I...
