    brew stoopids

All hail passedpawn the new king of redneck... Best I have dont with a hydrometer was using the glass test jar that I picked up when I first started, pulled a sample, droped in the hydrometer with a little spin and walk away for a few to let it settle. When I come back to get the...

Help a newbie with an airlock question.

I use a 6.5 gal bucket, and just use my spare racking hose for blow off. It takes a little effort, but it will fit into the grommit in the top of the bucket. Then put the other end in a contaner of sanitizing solution to keep air from flowing back into the bucket. Mess contained.

    Irish Red Ale

Just an update, its fermenting along now, damn thing kept me up all night:(. Since my room is the only one with AC, I keep it set at 65 and thats where all the fermentation takes place. FYI a blow off tube in a jar of water makes lots of noise at 0200, its going to be a long day at work lol.

    Priming question

My first batch of Hefewizen is fermenting away nicely and I realize that I forgot to pick up the priming sugar while at the LHBS. I have plenty of time before bottling so going back in a picking up some corn sugar is not a problem, but it got me thinking. If I were to not notice a mistake like...

    First batch of real beer...

Ok, just got home from work and came into the bedroom and took a look at this batch. I have two things to say to the forum. 1. You were not lying about the banna from this yeast, if I had not read here first I would have thought there was banna extract in the bucket. My room smells...

    First batch of real beer...

After a few wines and 5 gal of Graff decided it was time to do a real beer. Hefewizen from extract seemed like a simple place to start so I used a recipe I was given here on the fourm. 6# Wheat DME 1oz of Hallertau @ 60 minutes Wyeast 3068 1# of Carapils steeped S.G. 1.051 Think I...

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

+1 on the hops, I used the called for ammount, but at half the strength since im still learning to understand the value of hops. I have noticed that to really get a good flavor I have to put about 1/2 of a pellet in the bottom of the glass before I pour. Next time ill be using the sugested hops.

    Skeeter Pee

Just found this post, and as I have a 5 gal batch of traditonal mead ferminting now, I think I know what the lees will be used for.... think I will use honey instead of sugar as well. If hot lemon juice and honey (with a bit of whisky of course) is good in the winter, then I belive that cold...
