    Yeast for Palmer Barleywine

    Are you saying more esters from American yeast, less esters from English? By clean do you mean use fresh yeast? Would I be looking at making a starter if that's the case?

    Can you put less than 5g in 5g secondary?

    I know size doesn't matter so much for primary. I have a 5 gallon carboy for secondary. would it be a problem to put 3.5 gallons of beer in it? If it were you, how low would you go, 2 gallons, 1 gallon...?

    Yeast for Palmer Barleywine

    Looked at his website and my print copy, maybe it's a different edition. Simply says American ale or English ale yeast. Says to use yeast cake from (preferably) a secondary fermenter. Do you think it would be okay using a cake from primary? The recipe doesn't specify English or American style...

    Hello, I want to try making Palmer's Urukhai barleywine. Directions say to pitch on yeast cake. Will any yeast do or are there better types?
