Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I have a WCPA kit that was part of my initial Mr Beer kit purchase. Can anyone recommend an ingredient set/grainbill to "fix" it up a bit? I want to use it up, rather than just toss it and buy something else. I am thinking of trying to do a partial/mini mash addition and possibly a little...

    Changing Ingredients in Mr. Beer

Steve - I will do what I can to make myself wait out the time... but may stick a bottle or two in the fridge somewhere after 7-10 days... just for experimentation Next batch will be the Mr Beer West Coast Pale Ale HME... but I am debating on trying a partial mash this time, even if just for a...

    Changing Ingredients in Mr. Beer

All bottled up. I did it yesterday, so 10 days in the LBK total. I split this batch between the what was supposed to be six regular size beer bottles and the rest into 1 liter Mr. Beer bottles. There are only 5 twelve oz bottles now though; due to a slight mishap during the capping attempt on...

    Changing Ingredients in Mr. Beer

Eight days into ferment; gravity reading is 1.014. I will check it again either tomorrow night or Saturday. If it is stable AND my bottle capper and caps gets here in the mail, I may be bottling on Saturday or Sunday. It is still a bit clouded looking, but you guys say to expect that with a...

    Changing Ingredients in Mr. Beer

The beer has been in ferment for 7 days, now; smells like it should and seems to be chugging along nicely. At what point should I start doing daily gravity readings? I didn't have the hydrometer to take initial gravities on the first batch I did; which I racked over to bottles at 8 days...

    Changing Ingredients in Mr. Beer

Kealia - I drifted slightly off of the normal Mr. Beer procedure and actually did a 30 minute boil of all ingredients... minus the whirlfloc, which went in at the halfway point. I know that usually you wouldn't worry about clarifying a wheat beer, but I had a fairly cloudy first batch and...

Do your under age kids drink w/you at home?

Both my boys are too young to start any of this yet... ages 5 and 2.. but I was raised around both guns and various alcoholic beverages; AND taught from a pretty young age how to use and deal with them both. I feel that if you teach the correct respect and responsibility on these types of...

    Changing Ingredients in Mr. Beer

:mug: I started the batch today. This is what I used 1 Can Mr. Beer Whispering Wheat HME 1 Bag Mr. Beer Booster 1 lb Briess Bavarian Wheat DME Safbrew WB-06 dry yeast packet 1/2 tab Whirlfloc I followed the basic plan outlined in here in the thread and everything went pretty smooth...

    Changing Ingredients in Mr. Beer

:( Well, I WAS going to be posting tonight about how the brew for this batch went... but I just discovered a problem which will delay the brew for several days. Somehow, the inner nut for the spigot on my LBK has walked off... I don't know for sure if I didn't get it from the rack when I...

First Batch is in to Ferment

This is what my First batch looks like poured. Slightly cloudy and the head only holds for maybe 30 seconds; but it tastes pretty decent and I think I have to call it a success.

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

This is what the first batch looks like; maybe not a great pic, but it might give an indication of the cloudiness I am seeing. Also a note... the head only stayed for about 30 seconds... I took a series of pics and within that time it basically dropped completely, is this something I can...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Wait.... you really think those beautiful bottles of delicious beer are going to LAST 2 weeks in the fridge? You should know better; I am already prepping to start the next batch, but I am afraid I will be out of beer in the next 5-7 days. I have 6 Liter bottles left, and one of those is...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

What would be the 'right' way to incorporate clarifying agents while using a Mr Beer fermenter and bottles system? Most of the posts I see indicate adding the agent to the secondary fermenter when you rack over; but Mr Beer goes right from the LBK to the bottles... Advice please? I just...

Is my Hydrometer complete as purchased?

I just tried the test with tap water in the supplied tube. I think everything is fine; it read very close to right on 1.000, and I had not worried about temperature or anything. Guess I just did not have enough fluid in the tube the first time.

Is my Hydrometer complete as purchased?

Thanks for the advice all... Maybe I was just not putting in enough of the liquid... worrying about spillage etc. I will try it again on the next brew. If the included tube still fails, I'll get hold of a test tube. Also, no baster needed for now... I am using a (Gasp!!! I know) Mr. Beer kit...

Is my Hydrometer complete as purchased?

I picked up a hydrometer from my LHBS shop. The guy at the store was very helpful with all my questions and purchases that day, and did NOT say anything about needed any other items along with it. The hydrometer came in a plastic tube and had an instruction sheet with it. Is this tube what...

First Batch is in to Ferment

Ok,if anyone checks the dates you will see that I got a wee bit impatient with this, my FIRST, brew. It fermented for just over a week until it seemed to have hit a finish. I racked it over into the 1 Liter bottles for conditioning phase and am eight days in. Yesterday I took two of the...

First Batch is in to Ferment

I have had the first brew in Bottle Conditioning for just over a week. I think tomorrow I will move half of the batch (four bottles) to the refridgerator for chilling. I will let the other four Liters condition for another week or so. This should let me see how much difference there is in...
