Help with 1st all grain process - fly sparging

OK great, thanks Yooper. Not far off what I came up with and certainly clarifies the ordering of some of the sparge aspects of the process....worth the sanity check :) I'll go for 6.25 boil volume then, if i'm still low my yeast starter (decanted first if need be) should get me close. This will...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

I brewed this 6 weeks ago ago. its been in bottle 3 weeks and there is a big difference from 2 weeks but needs a little longer I believe as mine turned out quite hot, but that is mellowing should be good in another 2 weeks.

Help with 1st all grain process - fly sparging

Thanks both. I understand the result of not mashing out but just wondered if it was another homebrewing myth, I figured not, since its a well established technique but had not read any info as yet about the beta-amylase specifically being the target enzyme, thanks RM-MN. I like the concept of...

Help with 1st all grain process - fly sparging

Thanks! 1) Makes sense 2) That's what I'm thinking, 12.6lb and 6G pre boil vol, for 5G in ferm after boil off and contraction. 3) Sounds good in principle, any evidence for this...? I thought enzymes didn't denature until well over typical mash out temps? 4) Ok so nothing special. But just to...

Help with 1st all grain process - fly sparging

Thanks Yooper, more options to consider - or reconsider... :) Im glad you responded as I respect your opinions Im not hell bent on nailing my sparge water volumes (its no big deal to heat up an excess) AND if its best/normal practice to NOT drain the MLT then I wont. So, I will fly sparge...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Made this at the weekend. I do BIAB and but am new and have only done 1 so far. I calculated a 60% efficiency on my last batch so for this I added some extra grain to compensate and to hopefully hit the OG. Anyway, I got a little extra effciency than I reckoned for and got an OG of 1.060. So...

2013's How many gal of homebrew in 2013

+5G Yooper Dead Guy Clone (EX+SG) To style but didnt like too much. Was pretty boring, i know maibock are only lightly hopped, but maybe i should increase the water in the boil next time to tame the sweet/maltiness of this one and maybe ferment at cooler. Also the head was non-existent, again...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I get that changing hops would make different beer, the questions really was would it make this quick turn around beer taste good and if so what flavours would I get out of it. Admittedly I did not spend hours trawling google but if all we needed was google then this site would be redundant...

American Porter Founder's Porter Clone - Partial Mash

Great, thanks! I'll have to see if my neighbour can fit the carboy into his spare fridge. Failing that an ice/water bath in a tote of somekind would have to do. Cheers.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Yes that would work. Thanks. Any thoughts on the hops? Sorry, bit of a novice. I think if I put my Chinook in as Centennial and Willamette as Cascade but reduce boil times a little on the Chinook then the bitterness levels we be about right but just not sure on the taste differences? Cheers.
