    Single Tier Brutus Clone.....Another One!

To the OP: Great build and I don't mean to thread jack but I'm a bit concerned about carlisle bobs comment and my own stand. Any idea what could happen if there isn't enough vertical space? My stand was built to support my current kettle sizes and larger kettle sizes in case I upgrade in the...

    Storing RO water

I have no stores with an RO dispenser near me and the cheapest store that does have one sells 10 gallons for $5.00 (and is 30 minutes away so the gas money alone kills that option without even considering the value of the time I'd spend driving to that store and the hassle of transporting the...

Beaker vs Erlenmeyer Flask for a starter

I rarely use my 2L flask these days and use my 5L flask regularly. Then again I'm often brewing 7-10g batches.

What to do with 2 oz of Amarillo?

2oz isn't much so I would say do a pale ale, bitter with something like magnum / ctz / or chinook, then use the amarillo (and maybe a third hop like citra, simcoe, centennial, etc) for finishing.

    Efficiency varies..... Wtf

I'm in that same range for efficiency and usually find that my recipes using more kilned malts hit anywhere from 67-74% while my recipes with less kilned malts hit 75 - 84% Makes sense considering kilned malts are less fermentable and I tend to use US05 (high attenuator) on my recipes with less...

    Heady Topper

Simcoe is offered by at least 3 different farms and each offering is different bitterness / flavor / smell wise....about 5 minutes in.....

Needed a beer at 10 AM!!!

Drinking that early doesn't make you an alcoholic but posting about it on the internet and asking others to decide is probably more questionable in its own right. The question becomes do you really have a problem / are you really worried, or are you just seeking social attention for other reasons?

    Heady Topper

Excellent recon work and contribution to the thread thanks! I'm especially happy to hear this because I really liked the Pearl malt and was thinking about making it my "house base malt" so you have given me extra motivation to really just see what this malt is like on its own.

    Heady Topper

Will do but probably won't be trying again until the end of summer or fall. A quick solution until then would be to beef up the flame out addition and the dry hop amount to an insane level :) I'm starting to think that what I'm going to do next is use the hoprocket on the way into the...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just brewed my first American Barleywine. Hit 1.108 OG / 135 IBU's and am hoping to end up with 12% ABV. Planning on fermenting / conditioning this one for 7 months and opening it around XMAS / NYE. Fermentables included 2 row, munich, rye, caramel 60, and some maple syrup. Hopped with...

    Heady Topper

I was up in VT a couple of weeks ago and got some fresh Heady cans. This batch pretty much tastes like hop extract, centennial, and citra to me! Definitely lacking some of the simcoe glory that I've experienced previously. I've been drinking Heady Topper on tap/cask since 2008 and it always...

    Heady Topper

I'm sure lots of breweries use it at moderate to low levels that are undetectable to anybodies palate (self included) but a few breweries use it at a higher concentration that I feel is detectable flavor wise. These examples all seem to have a similar flavor note that I attribute to the higher...

    Heady Topper

I was up at the Three Penny Taproom's 3rd Anniversary Party last weekend and they had a keg of Heady Topper Double Dry Hopped with Amarillo. It was being talked about by the locals as being a variation of the standard Heady Topper. It was fantastic and seemed a touch more fruity than the...
