    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

So decided to swap my Strangebrew box over to CraftBeerPi, i like it so far. Any advice on PID calibration, or what type of Heater setup i should use i saw you support quite a few types. They are 20G BK and HLT HERMS setup, although i usually only do 5-10 gallon batches. Do the automated...

American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

So in the process of making this, but just realized that this recipe says its 33IBU? Both BrewersFriend and Beersmith put it at like 18-20 IBU's? Should I am to bump it up to 33IBU or just follow the recipe as described? I have 5.4% AA Cascade pellets i figured i would just pretend...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Added that to my Amazon wish list, that thing is ****ing sick. Its products like this that make me love kickstarter. It looks so good, and they really thought of everything. Measures internal temps and external temps with 1 probe? This thing will make smoking with my Kamado way easier...

    Apartment brewers: Water and Cleaning

You could always T off the water line under the counter with a ball valve as well.

SSR vs Contactor vs 30A industrial 2 Pole Switch

Yes, but for the same reason as using contactors over SSR's, using Contactors with switches gives you an added benefit. IMHO you dont want to be pumping current through your switches, even if it supports it. Your actively grabbing them, if one is energized your ****ed. In a typical setup your...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Most fridges are 3a less running, yes. BUT, When the compressor comes on some older fridges can spike upwards of 25A or higher with inrush current for a split second as they power on. All fridges will have inrush of some sort, how big they are and how big their compressor is really determines...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Its not properly detecting your sensors, likely due to wiring. Its unlikely the digital pin went out. The SSR's dont detect, they are hard coded to be there. So seeing those doesnt tell you anything.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

The downside to SSR's is they are going to take a bit more space, i dont know if at this amperage if you need heat sinks on them or not but im guessing no? Just amazon search for 40A SSR, they are only $10 each and are way overkill for what you need, so much so that you shouldnt need heat sinks...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I dont pitch @ 80 something lol, i tend to get my beer down to mid 70's to low 80's with my CFC then put it in my chamber to come to temp before i pitch. It just helps save water because those last 10-15 degree's can take forever. Also this was a 10g batch split into two buckets, so there...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Yup im with the others, your probe(s) are screwed up. Resetting the Arduino may have brought it back to life for a bit but you should definitely rewire them and possibly get new probes if they still exhibit the behavior. Its struggling to cool because its being turned on and off every 30...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Interesting, can you get a zoomed in shot of the "broken" timeframe? Its hard to see what the fridge/heater along the bottom are doing at such a zoomed out timescale its just a mash of blue and red. Also where is your fridge probe? You can see during the bad time that the fridge setting is set...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Im no expert, but i thought solid core wire in screw down terminals in general is bad practice? You dont really get much surface area of contact, easier for the wires to fall out without the compression you'd get squeezing stranded wires down.

Market for fermenter temp control tubes?

The problem with the Immersion pro is its a peltier cooler, and just by the laws of physics there are certain restrictions about how cold or hot it can actually get something. Im skeptical such a small peltier setup could be +-35F from Ambient, but who knows. It wouldnt take much to buy a SS...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Thats so damn weird, ive been using the same Samsung SD card since i started this thread, reinstalled a few times but its never died and i treat the thing like **** lol.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Maybe a bit? But not really, the fridge temperature more or less follows the fridge setting(which is where BrewPi wants to be), maybe overshooting by 1 degree or so but that doesnt really matter because your temps are staying pretty stable.

    Hosehead Brewery

1, 3, 2 are the orders of reliability. I couldnt get Wifi to work reliably on my DIY Strangebrew box, it sort of worked but the wifi dongle inside a big steel box(understandably) caused it to be slow and go out every once in a while even when its only like 20 feet from my wifi router through a...

    Hosehead Brewery

Just thought i'd chime in, for 5.5 gallon batches(7.5 gallons starting) i stick to about 70% 3 Second duty cycle. It gives me a good boil without being super vigorous, it pulses a bit but never outright dies. Similar to what i experienced when i was using propane.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

This confuses me, how is that better than the pid loop he was using, honestly it performs so well I don't see how it could bee more accurate, unless there are fridges and freezers that behave vastly different than mine. But then again I've never heard of anyone in the years people have been...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

If your in minutes though, you basically have the current BrewPi. Im with Day_trippr i dont know what they really mean by PWM. That said, the new Spark is geared more towards overall brewery/mash control, are you sure they arent saying PWM for electric heating element controls for a...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Wild Pecan Porter

Im debating making this recipe with just all Maris Otter? I have 55# of it and no standard 2 row..if anything i would think it would help with getting the malty nutty flavor? Or would it be overkill?
