HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

That would work, one thing of note is you can use decimals in your days. To get "sudden" movement i use that. For example your 0 - 69 2 - 75 would ramp the temp from 69 to 75 over 2 days. If you set 0 - 69 1.9 - 69 2 - 75 You would see your graph profile change to being a...

Wireless sensors in the fermenter (Smartthings)

If its really that small just coat the entire thing in 100% aquarium silicone you can get at any pet shop or online, let it cure for a few days or a week so all the chemicals go away and drop it in your bucket or dangle it with a string inside so it doesnt just read temps in the trub/yeast.

    Starting the fermenting chamber

If your ambient is mid 60's day and night you will probably not even need to bother with a heater. Honestly i would just start with cooling. Plug in the freezer to the controller cooling plug, set all the STC-1000 settings, set your target temp and wait 10 minutes for it to kick on for the...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Thats his beer, if hes doing 5 gallons and your fridge temp isnt way hotter i wouldnt expect that much thermal mass to change very quickly.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I agree with your general theory that your too close to your heater. Are you using something with a Fan? If not consider putting a fan in as well somehow. I say your right, because if you look at the graph, your fridge temperature(blue) and fridge setting(orange) never actually go below your...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

After a certain amount of time they stop letting the post creator edit, and i have long since past that time on this thread. On top of that about 2 years ago they totally reworked the entire forum layout and how things are organized, and that's when i lost my access. As others said i had the...

Building BrewPi... is my plan obsolete?

In the US you can get in trouble for inducing someone to infringe on a patent, we have some stupid ass laws in general around patents. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/35/271 So while i wouldnt be selling anything, if i induced someone else to make a copy who did sell it i could be...

Building BrewPi... is my plan obsolete?

Im dying to post a DIY on how to make your own tilt like device, but i just know they would come after me because of the patent since im in the US.

well the electrician just left and the news wasn't great

I would get a second opinion as others said. Not only for the code "violations" but for price. More than a few people told me my breakers were wrong, and i just went online and googled and low and behold the company who made the breaker box was bought out by another company who stuck their...

Building BrewPi... is my plan obsolete?

Theres nothing your doing that seems out of the ordinary. There have been some improvements in the BrewPi code for the Spark, but honestly the Arduino based system works so well at controlling temperatures i dont really care. If brewpi spark gets me to 99.99% accuracy and speed i dont really...

what are you guys using for heating in your chambers

Like everyone else, i use and recommend the Lasko Myheat 100 heaters. 200W may sound like a lot but honestly i think its under that by quite a bit. Imagine its heat output similar to what your car vents would put out on like medium/high, hot air but not scorching by any means. The built in...

RIMS or HERMS: Understanding Mashing Equipment

Yea the 180F thing confused me, where did that number come from? Who (answer Nobody) sets their HLT to 180F and then modulates their Mash temp by turning on and off the pump? The rest of the article is pretty good, but that is just downright wrong. Go read the How to use your system pages at...

RIMS or HERMS: Understanding Mashing Equipment

Ive literally never heard of anyone doing this. You always run your mash wort through the coil. You clean by pumping your sparge water through the coil. After 10-15 minutes of sparging with 170F water there is no way my coil is dirty inside. Cleaning the outside of the coil sounds like an...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

With the install script whats the point of cloning cards? You flash jessie, expand filesystem, clone the github and run the installer and wait and your done. It takes hardly any time at all on a RPI2, so i'd imagine a RPI3 is even faster. That said im still using the same SD card i was 2...

So do diy my setup or just go with the unibrau

The insides arent that difficult if your just doing a single element, its 2 contactors($30) a SSR($10), a 240V twist lock socket(preferably), 120V socket for the pump, all your switches/led's and a bunch of 12 gauge wire going everywhere. Your enclosure assuming your going water tight steel is...

Hydroponics Grow Tent as Fermentation Chamber?

You could ferment in a garbage bag if you wanted, its just not really that useful or efficient. Your paying a ton of money for all the mylar and reflective material that you dont even need (unless you plan on frying your beer with UV lamps), and getting nothing you do want, which is insulation.

    CraftBeerPi - Raspberry Pi Software

Im not familiar with PiFace, but it looks like there are LED's for each of the outputs? If you show your heater in the UI and click it, does the LED turn on? Does your SSR have a LED on it(mine do)?
