    IPA's are bad.

Yeah well why don't you just shut up

Has anybody tried using short shank taps?

It would translate into a lot of extra compressor kicking on and off since you'd have to open the door every time you wanted a beer. Unless you're one of those weirdos that doesn't drink that many beers in a session.

Has anybody tried using short shank taps?

The reason why people use overly long shanks is because the longer the shank, the more mass of the shank which translates into less temperature change when beer flows through it. Less temperature change equals less foam. Short shanks means more foamy pours. Each time you pour a glass you...

    Thermocurious? (stc1000)

The Inkbird is basically an STC that has been flashed already. And it's the same price.

    Contactor problems

Use a multi-meter to see if you have any power flowing to the sides of the contactor.

    Thermocurious? (stc1000)

If you do go the STC-1000 route, I'd recommend getting an Inkbird ITC-1000 controller instead. Same price, but reads in F instead of C and the programming controls are a little better.

    Carboy vs fermenting bucket

Buckets are for people that aren't awesome enough to be able to handle a large glass object that could kill you any time it pleases. Other people will talk about how buckets are lighter and cheaper and don't let light through and are safer and then other people will talk about how glass...

Feud between my two local breweries

You can't patent a recipe. Brewery #2 sounds like a bunch of losers. If the town isn't big enough for two breweries, then let them sink.

How Do You Design Beer Recipes (Poll)?

    1) Designing Great Beers by Ray Daniels is a good start if you want to make a beer from scratch 2) Recipe database here on HBT is a good place to get ideas.

Still alive - just tackling a HUGE DIY

"Hey, you know what would be awesome? Make a house with a whole bunch of curves everywhere!" Said Jester, right before his future self appeared from a rip in the fabric of time and slapped him.

Acquired a keg, now time to turn it into a brew kettle

Personally, I'd avoid the bazooka screen because I've used them in the past and they clog up a lot. Nowadays, I just don't worry about how much hot break / cold break / hop material gets into my fermentors. It all falls to the bottom and I get no off-flavors or grassy flavors from the hop...

Water sucks! It really really sucks!

If you haven't done tests then it's kinda hard to nail down how to fix any problems without just recommending multiple-stage filtration systems. If you don't want to buy RO you can make your own. I bought a Watts 5-stage RO system for my house that ran me around $200. Though I have a...

    What grapes are these?

I'd be cautious. They look kinda like pokeberries to me. Or perhaps woodbine berries.
