I’m tired of making grassy gross IPA’s.

C hops + Simcoe is the way to go then! My favorite combo for a classic west coast is Centennial Simcoe Citra with only a light dry hop charge (1-2 oz).

Something You Wish You’d Started Doing Sooner (in Home Brewing)

Same here, I extract brewed from 2008 - 2014 and I wish I had started out with all-grain. I also wish I had known about John Palmer's How to Brew when I first started. It was super valuable in helping me feel confident in all my basic process steps early on

A thick PBW solution left on overnight will dissolve that wort

Does Homebrew Hit You Harder Than Commercial Beer?

I've heard tilt's don't measure FG very well because of gunk built up on them. But as you say, with a small grain bill you can't be too far off. Still, even a 1% difference can affect you more than you might think.

Does Homebrew Hit You Harder Than Commercial Beer?

I do think some homebrew contains excessive levels of fusel alcohols which can lead to worse hangovers, but I don't know about feeling more drunk. IME that's all down to ABV as was said earlier. It may be worth double checking your ABV calculations. The predictions in beersmith are meaningless...

Purging keg with CO2 from fermentation: liquid or gas post?

My very first post directed to you said "my experience has been the opposite" and then I proceeded to relate my experience. I never argued that you were wrong or that it wasn't working for you, but I did put forward a counterpoint to your "proof" of lid sealing since I don't agree that it...

Does Homebrew Hit You Harder Than Commercial Beer?

So of that list, here is what I have used in my homebrew: Potassium sulfate (in wine and cider) sodium benzoate (in wine) antifoaming agents (fermicap S) favor enhancers (table salt) corn syrup (gravity boost) genetically modified malt and hops (all malt and hops are genetically modified)...

Purging keg with CO2 from fermentation: liquid or gas post?

I don't appreciate nor do I deserve the condescending tone you've assumed, nor the insults to my intelligence. I'm asking an honest question and trying to have a conversation here. Please enhance your chill. Having never used anyone else's kegs except for my own, I have no frame of reference...

    Flanders Red Recipe Check

The one and only time I tried to make a sour by pitching bugs at the beginning, i got salad dressing So I'd agree that pitching yeast first is safer As for complex carbohydrates, you won't get that from corn. It's known for its simple carbohydrates and easy fermentation. If you want complex...

Purging keg with CO2 from fermentation: liquid or gas post?

What does that mean? I'm 100% correct about my own kegs. It sounds like yours behave quite differently. Mine most definitely leak without pressure, so maybe I'm doing something wrong and have the wrong o rings in there, or maybe it's just pin locks? Some of my lids have actually been dented...

Purging keg with CO2 from fermentation: liquid or gas post?

Well my experience has been the opposite. I have 11 pin lock kegs and 10 of them requires a burst of about 20psi to get the lids to seal. One will seal with about 10psi I have replaced the O rings and used keg lube on all of them and replaced the entire lid on 2 of them. If i put 5psi in them...

    Whirpool with oats...

That might be an interesting technique for NEIPA haze production and mouthfeel. You would need to have them in a grain bag to remove them though

Purging keg with CO2 from fermentation: liquid or gas post?

So this is the exact problem I've always had with this method... Corny kegs don't seal unless they are pressurize. So how do y'all make sure that they stay sealed while you are purging with fermentation CO2? Or do you pressurize it a little bit with a CO2 tank first and then use a spunding valve...

Wanted 2.5 Gallon Corny Kegs, any condition (max height 15")

I'm looking for one or two 2.5 gallon corny kegs. I had to replace my keezer body and to my dismay it doesn't quite hold 4 full sized kegs, but it will hold 3 + a 2.5 gallon keg on the step. A 3 gallon keg will not work, so only looking for the 2.5 gallon thats 15" tall (shorter if you got...
